Summary: This poetic article explores the experience of sickness and the emotional toll it takes on individuals in the healthcare profession. It highlights the exhaustion and burden of trying to appear fine, great, and cool even when feeling overwhelmed and torn. The article concludes with a plea for protection and isolation from the dangers of the world.

Takeaways:

🛌 Recognize the importance of taking sick days and allowing yourself to rest during overwhelming moments.

🤥 Acknowledge the tendency to claim that everything is fine and great, even when feeling exhausted and burnt out. It's okay to admit the truth and seek support.

😷 Understand the desire to isolate oneself from the world and protect oneself from potential harm.

🔒 Prioritize self-care and finding ways to stay hidden and safe, both physically and emotionally, during challenging times.

💪 Remember that it's okay to cry and express vulnerability when things don't go as planned. Nobody has it together all the time.

🌟 Be compassionate towards yourself and prioritize your own well-being as a healthcare professional.

Sick Days

Sick days mean resting

from overwhelming moments

lingering, painful times.

Everything Is Fine

Everything is fine,

you claim with tired eyes, baggy

underneath with full

exhaustion, with keeping up

with the world still collapsing.

Everything is great,

you say when fire burns inside,

knowing you’re saying

lies but they deny the truth,

harder than ever before.

Everything is cool,

you murmur when they ask you

why you look so worn

and torn, like you fell apart

with nothing left to fix you.

Everything is gone,

you cry after all goes wrong

despite trying to

maintain your status quo, look

like you have it together.

Quarantined Fear

Show me every way to stay hidden to live,

every passageway, door, secure locks and keys

to seclude myself from the dangerous world

until it’s over.
