Admission requirements

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and complete at least 90 semester or 135 quarter hours at a regionally accredited U.S. institution; a bachelor’s degree is preferred. Prerequisites with C or higher are one year each of biology with lab, general chemistry with lab, organic chemistry with lab and algebra-based physics with lab; three credits each of human physiology, 300-level biochemistry, English composition or technical writing, and human anatomy. The minimum cumulative and science GPA is 2.5, with 3.0 recommended. ATSU requires the U.S. DAT and does not accept scores older than three years.

Two letters are required: one science-faculty or committee letter and one dentist letter. ATSU strongly recommends 100 hours of clinical shadowing or experience and 100 hours of leadership and service to underserved populations, but these are recommendations rather than minimum eligibility requirements.

This regular-DMD eligibility differs from the separate Advanced Standing International Dentist track. Do not import CAAPID, foreign dental degree, TOEFL, bench-test or January-cohort requirements into this page.

Important dates

ADEA’s 2026–27 AADSAS application opened May 12, 2026 and first accepted submissions June 2. ATSU’s current regular-DMD page lists December 1 for AADSAS and January 31 for the DAT and secondary application, but does not print a year beside those dates. Interviews run from September through March and admissions are rolling. The current page still contains accepted-student wording for July 2026; it does not publish the Fall 2027 orientation or matriculation date, secondary fee, offer schedule or wait-list dates.

How selection works

ATSU evaluates academic coursework, DAT, the AADSAS essay, recommendations and interviews. Community service through volunteering or service-oriented employment is preferred, consistent with MOSDOH’s focus on community-minded dentists and underserved populations. DMD programme

Complete applications are screened for rolling interview invitations from September through March. ATSU does not publish numerical factor weights, secondary-screen thresholds beyond GPA eligibility, interview scoring, committee vote rules, post-interview formula, residency weighting or wait-list order.

ATSU-MOSDOH’s regular DMD combines two foundational years in Kirksville with third- and fourth-year patient care in St. Louis and community sites, including safety-net and external rotations. It emphasizes whole-person care, service and public-health preparation. Kirksville and St. Louis are sequential sites within one DMD, not separate admissions pages. Exclude ATSU’s Arizona dental school, Still Scholars early assurance, Advanced Standing, specialty and dual-degree-specific requirements.
