Admission requirements
AWSOM requires an AMCAS primary application. Applicants who meet its minimum admissions requirements receive instructions for a $100 electronic secondary application. The current requirements page names academic benchmarks, MCAT scores, citizenship or permanent-residency status, recommendations, educational background, and technical standards as parts of eligibility. AWSOM requirements
Only U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible. Admitted applicants must complete a criminal background check before matriculation and meet the technical standards for admission, progress, and graduation. AWSOM does not accept transfer students from domestic or international medical schools. AWSOM eligibility
The current page labels the AAMC PREview Professional Readiness Exam as highly recommended. AWSOM's official admissions guidance also describes foundational college work in biology, chemistry, physics, and the humanities, plus advanced science preparation. It says at least three recommendation letters are required, up to five are accepted, and a qualifying premedical committee letter can satisfy the requirement. The live requirements page uses dynamic accordion content. In the text-accessible official source reviewed August 11, 2026, the numeric GPA and MCAT minimums, accepted MCAT date range, detailed course-credit requirements, and course-expiry rules were not exposed. Older handbook values are not presented here as fall 2027 requirements. Applicants should verify those values in the current official accordion or directly with Admissions before deciding eligibility.
Important dates
For the 2026-27 interview cycle, AAMC reports that AWSOM begins sending interview invitations in late July or early August 2026. Interviews run from late August 2026 through February 2027. AAMC 2026-27 interview procedures
AWSOM's current application timeline lists AMCAS availability in early May, submission in early June, secondary invitations from early July, rolling interview invitations from August, the first interview day in early September, and offers beginning in mid-October. It lists November 1 for the primary deadline, December 1 for supplemental materials, late February for the final interview day, April 30 for the Plan to Enroll deadline, June 1 for Commit to Enroll, and mid-July for classes. AWSOM application timeline
The school timeline does not print a year beside most deadline rows. The page was current for the 2026-27 cycle when verified, but applicants should confirm the year and time zone in AMCAS and their AWSOM portal before submitting or withdrawing other acceptances.
How selection works
AWSOM reviews academic achievements, life experiences, interests, and personal qualities. Its published mission-alignment factors include community service, leadership, clinical work, whole-health practice, research, empathy, self-care, humanism, entrepreneurial thinking, collaboration, and community focus. AWSOM application review
Applicants submit AMCAS first. Those meeting minimum requirements receive a secondary. AWSOM then completes a comprehensive application review and invites selected applicants to a virtual interview day. Offers are made on a rolling basis until 48 seats are filled, with decisions communicated by email and through the admissions portal. AWSOM admissions process
AWSOM does not publish numerical weights for GPA, MCAT, PREview, experiences, recommendations, secondary responses, or interviews. A class profile describes a past entering class and should not be used as a cutoff or offer prediction.
Interview details
Confirmed
For the 2026-27 cycle, AWSOM uses two 30-minute one-on-one interviews. Interviewers are blinded to the applicant's MCAT performance, academic background, and biographic information. Invitations begin in late July or early August; interviews run from late August 2026 through February 2027. AAMC 2026-27 interview procedures
All interviews are conducted through Zoom. The rest of the virtual day introduces applicants to AWSOM and provides time to ask questions; invitation and scheduling instructions are sent by email. AAMC 2026-27 interview procedures
Not published
The current sources do not publish the interview question topics, whether both interviews follow the same structure, interviewer roles, preparation time, scoring rubric, score combination, or interview weight. Use the invitation for exact attendance and technology instructions.
Who this program may suit
AWSOM may suit applicants interested in a four-year MD curriculum that combines foundational and clinical medicine with art, humanities, whole-health principles, self-care, and community impact. Its mission emphasizes medically underserved and rural communities in Arkansas, surrounding states, and beyond. About AWSOM
Key practical considerations are the school's preliminary LCME accreditation status, class size of 48, U.S. citizenship or permanent-residency rule, mission-aligned secondary review, and two blinded virtual interviews. These are program and application characteristics, not a promise of interview or admission.
Practice and next step
Start with the featured clinic-access scenario. Record one spoken response that identifies missing information, considers both patients, reaches a defensible decision, and communicates it with empathy and clarity.
Review the recording for one observable weakness: perhaps your opening was vague, you overlooked an access barrier, or you did not explain how you would communicate the outcome. Record the same response again with one deliberate adjustment and compare the attempts. Continue through the structured-interview path to practise fair decisions, ethical reasoning, teamwork, using feedback, and explaining motivation. Use AWSOM's invitation before rehearsing exact Zoom-day logistics.

Structured Interview Essentials
Build a repeatable spoken-answer loop across five common structured-interview skills: fair decisions, ethical reasoning, using feedback, teamwork under pressure, and explaining your motivation. Record each response once, choose the weakest one, review one observable weakness, and answer it again with one deliberate adjustment.
