Admission requirements
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year U.S. or Canadian college or university is required before matriculation. BU requires 45 semester credits of prerequisites: three biology courses with lab totaling 12–13 credits; two general chemistry courses with lab totaling 8–10; two organic chemistry courses with lab totaling 8–10; two physics courses with lab totaling 8–10; one biochemistry course of 3–4; and two additional upper-level courses in biology, biochemistry, chemistry or physics totaling six credits. At least 30 prerequisite credits must be completed at a four-year institution, including at least one course each in biology, biochemistry, chemistry and physics. Prerequisites
Community-college credit can apply only when paired with a 200-level or higher course in the same discipline at a four-year institution. Required sciences and labs must be in person. AP, IB and other test-exemption credit do not satisfy prerequisites. Pass/fail is not accepted unless documentation shows it was the only grading option.
BU accepts DAT or CDAT scores. Its current application page says scores must be within four years of application, while its current FAQ says DAT scores older than three years are not accepted. Applicants should obtain written confirmation from Admissions before relying on a score near either boundary. No minimum is published; science GPA above 3.4 and DAT Academic Average of 420 or higher are described as competitive, not cutoffs.
Submit three recommendations—two faculty letters plus one academic or personal letter—or a pre-health committee evaluation. BU expects in-person exposure to a practising general dentist but publishes no required number of hours. International applicants are eligible only if they will hold the required accredited U.S. or Canadian bachelor’s degree.
Important dates
ADEA’s 2026–27 AADSAS application opened May 12, 2026 and first accepted submissions June 2. BU’s current DMD application deadline is December 15, 2026. The application includes an $80 BU fee; AADSAS Fee Assistance Program recipients may request a waiver. Application page
Remote interviews run from September through March. Admission decisions begin December 15 and can continue through July. BU does not publish a separate Fall 2027 supplemental-fee deadline, orientation date or first-class date on the current pages reviewed.
How selection works
BU describes holistic review of academic achievement, course rigor, DAT performance, leadership, resilience, empathy, integrity, service, personal attributes and contribution to the school’s mission and learning community. Its admissions material says evaluators use a standardized scoring rubric and structured, calibrated interviews. DMD admissions
Selected applicants receive a remote interview invitation. Interview evidence then joins the rest of the file for committee consideration, with offers beginning on the national notification date and continuing as space remains. BU does not publish academic screen thresholds, numerical factor weights, rubric dimensions or anchors, committee vote rules, post-interview formula or wait-list order.

Who this program may suit
BU Goldman’s regular DMD review rewards evidence of rigorous preparation, resilience, empathy, integrity, leadership, service and a credible contribution to the school’s learning community. A fit response should connect a concrete general-dentist observation to the applicant’s own action, learning and reason for pursuing patient care. Admissions overview
This page covers the regular four-year DMD only. Advanced Standing, postdoctoral, graduate and specialty routes have separate eligibility and admissions rules.
Practice and next step
Record a remote-interview response about a general-dentist experience that changed how you understand trust or responsibility in patient care. Ask a reviewer to identify whether your observation, action and learning are concrete. Make one adjustment, record a second attempt and compare specificity, reflection and mission fit.

Recommended preparation
Structured Interview Essentials
Build a repeatable spoken-answer loop across five common structured-interview skills: fair decisions, ethical reasoning, using feedback, teamwork under pressure, and explaining your motivation. Record each response once, choose the weakest one, review one observable weakness, and answer it again with one deliberate adjustment.
