Calgary DVM admissions: Fall 2027

The University of Calgary continues to offer its DVM program, but its public admissions pages still show the 2025–2026 application cycle for Fall 2026 entry. Those official materials describe Alberta residency, a 3.0 four-term GPA, a 495 MCAT minimum, ten prerequisites, blinded file review, an MMI, an essay, and prior-cycle Casper for interviewees. This Fall 2027 guide keeps every old date historical and identifies the next manual as the missing authority. Start with one structured response, review one weakness, and record a stronger second attempt.

Admission requirements

For the Fall 2026 intake, applicants had to qualify as Alberta residents and be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons. Indigenous applicants from elsewhere in Canada could be considered under the published exception. Treat these as the latest official rules, not confirmed Fall 2027 eligibility. UCVM prior-cycle residency rules

The latest rules required a minimum MCAT score of 495, ten specified university courses, and a minimum 3.0 GPA across the four most recent full-time terms. The course set covered biology, chemistry, English, organic chemistry, statistics, biochemistry, genetics, and ecology. UCVM prior-cycle academic requirements

UCVM reviews its policy annually and states that previous requirements may not apply in a later year. Confirm Fall 2027 residency definitions, MCAT validity, course deadlines, reference requirements, and English-language rules in the next application manual. UCVM prior-cycle manual

Important dates

For the historical Fall 2026 intake, the application opened October 3, 2025 and closed November 28, 2025. References were due December 19, fall transcripts January 16, 2026, the essay March 13, the online MMI March 14, Casper April 9, and final transcripts May 15. Offers were expected in May 2026. UCVM prior-cycle timeline

The prior manual said the 2026–2027 application and manual for the Class of 2031 would be available in the first week of May 2026, but the public admissions pages still link the older cycle as of August 9, 2026. UCVM admission process

Do not roll any 2025 or 2026 deadline forward. Fall 2027 application, MCAT release, reference, transcript, essay, Casper, MMI, and offer dates remain unpublished.

How selection works

The latest official process used academic thresholds to identify academically qualified applications, followed by a blinded file review of non-academic attributes. File reviewers did not see GPA, MCAT, sex, age, or name. UCVM admission process

Applicants advanced to an essay and MMI. The published final ranking was 70% MMI and 30% essay. The prior manual also required invited applicants to complete Casper after the interview, but the public process page does not explain how that result affected the final rank. UCVM prior-cycle manual

UCVM has not confirmed that the same thresholds, stages, weights, or blinded review rules will apply to Fall 2027.

Interview details

Confirmed

The latest official cycle used an online Multiple Mini-Interview and an essay. The prior manual scheduled the essay for March 13, 2026 and the MMI for March 14, 2026; the admissions process assigns 70% of the final ranking to MMI performance and 30% to the essay. Not published

UCVM has not published the Fall 2027 interview date, delivery mode, location, platform, station count, station timing, preparation time, assessor mix, scoring rubric, essay prompt structure, or confirmation that the 70/30 weighting will continue. Use the prior format only for provisional preparation, then follow the next manual and invitation.

Who this program may suit

UCVM may suit eligible Alberta residents seeking a four-year veterinary program connected to Calgary and the Spy Hill clinical campus. The latest admissions model combines science preparation, animal and veterinary understanding, non-academic file review, an essay, and MMI performance. UCVM admissions

The central constraint is residency: the latest cycle was limited to Alberta residents, with a national exception for eligible Indigenous applicants. Applicants should wait for the Fall 2027 manual before deciding whether they qualify or planning around prior dates. This is a comparison aid, not an admission prediction.

Practice and next step

First practice: record one answer to Clinic appointment access and fairness. For provisional MMI preparation, state your decision process, clarify the missing facts, weigh access and consistency, and finish with a respectful communication and follow-up plan.

Review the recording for one observable weakness—such as relying on assumptions, listing considerations without making a decision, or ignoring how the clinic could improve its process. Make one adjustment, record the same answer again, and compare the attempts. Continue with Structured Interview Essentials to practise fair decisions, ethical reasoning, teamwork, feedback, and motivation without assuming UCVM's prior circuit will remain unchanged.

Recommended preparation

Structured Interview Essentials

Build a repeatable spoken-answer loop across five common structured-interview skills: fair decisions, ethical reasoning, using feedback, teamwork under pressure, and explaining your motivation. Record each response once, choose the weakest one, review one observable weakness, and answer it again with one deliberate adjustment.
