University of Florida DMD Admissions Guide (2027)

Admission requirements

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents when they apply; other visa categories are not accepted for this regular DMD route. A bachelor's or higher degree from a regionally accredited U.S. or Canadian institution is required before enrollment, although it need not be complete at application. The degree programme and every prerequisite must be finished by Spring 2027. UF publishes no minimum overall or science GPA. Requirements

Prerequisites, each with a grade of C or higher, are six semester hours of English; eight each of biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry and physics, with laboratories; and three each of upper-level microbiology and biochemistry. Microbiology and biochemistry must be taken at a four-year institution. Lower-level community-college work may satisfy the other requirements. Pass/fail work is not accepted when a letter grade was available. AP or IB credit may count only when the degree-granting transcript identifies course-specific credit. Prerequisites

UF requires an official DAT by October 1 and evaluates the most recent set of scores. The current minimums on the new scale are Academic Average 330, Total Science 340, Biology 340, General Chemistry 350, Organic Chemistry 350, Perceptual Ability 310, Quantitative Reasoning 340 and Reading Comprehension 300. The Canadian DAT is not accepted. DAT requirements

Applicants submit three evaluation letters or one committee letter through AADSAS; UF does not prescribe evaluator roles and does not require the new ADEA recommender questions for this cycle. ADEA AADSAS opened May 12, 2026 and accepted first submissions June 2. UF requires the verified AADSAS application, official DAT and three letters to be complete by October 1, 2026. Interviews run from July through December 2026. Offers are not issued before the first December date permitted under dental-school traffic rules and continue on a rolling basis. Accepted applicants submit a $200 deposit. Interview Offers

How selection works

UF screens a completed AADSAS file, official DAT and three letters against its academic, prerequisite, citizenship and experience requirements. Selected applicants receive the required UF supplemental; only candidates who complete it and pay the $30 fee can advance to an interview. The current pages describe no automatic GPA cutoff. Florida residents receive preference. UF says a class is normally 93 students and approximately 10% may be non-Florida residents; non-residents are asked to explain Florida ties in the supplemental. This is contextual admissions policy, not a fixed annual quota. Out-of-state applicants

The in-person interview allows committee members to evaluate the applicant's experiences, path to dentistry and fit with the profession. The committee then considers the complete record for rolling offers. Interviews for this cycle run July through December 2026 and take place in person at the College of Dentistry in Gainesville. Each candidate completes one open-file interview lasting approximately 20-30 minutes with a panel of three or four Admissions Committee members. The panel has access to the application and explores the candidate as a person, relevant experiences, the path to dentistry and why dentistry is a suitable profession. This page covers UF's conventional four-year DMD in Gainesville. It excludes the separate CAAPID route for internationally educated dentists, the BS/DMD early-assurance path and DMD/PhD training. A strong fit response should connect sustained, specific exposure to general dentistry with what the applicant learned about patient care, teamwork and professional responsibility. Florida ties are relevant for non-residents, but they should be described precisely rather than treated as a substitute for academic and experiential readiness.
