Important dates
The annual official admissions bulletin says AMCAS begins accepting applications June 1 and that the completed AMCAS application and all materials are due November 1. It lists an August 1 EDP AMCAS deadline, September 1 EDP MCAT-availability deadline and October 1 EDP decision date. Whiddon admissions bulletin
Accepted applicants have two weeks to respond. Deferral requests are due June 1. Whiddon admissions bulletin
The current page does not attach calendar years to these dates, identify a secondary deadline, publish the latest regular-cycle MCAT date, define the interview season or list Fall 2027 decision and matriculation dates. Treat those items as unconfirmed until a cycle-specific update appears.
How selection works
Early review considers GPA, MCAT, the substance and level of coursework, academic trend, pre-health advisory review, extracurricular activity and state of residence. Approximately 200 favourably reviewed applicants are invited to interview. Whiddon admissions bulletin
Interviews assess communication, empathy, leadership, teamwork, life and work experience, research, regional bilingual language proficiency and sensitivity to a multicultural society. The Admissions Committee retains final responsibility for selecting students with academic and personal strength, motivation for medicine and promise as physicians. Whiddon admissions bulletin
No numerical weighting, post-interview formula or score cutoffs for regular Alabama-resident applicants are published. The out-of-state and EDP thresholds apply only to those categories.
Interview details
Confirmed
Approximately 200 applicants are interviewed by Admissions Committee members and ad hoc interviewers. Each interview is scheduled for 40 minutes. Interviewers receive the applicant's AMCAS profile and an evaluation form. Applicants also have an opportunity to meet current medical students. The interview evaluates nonacademic abilities and personal and emotional characteristics, including communication, empathy, leadership, teamwork, experience, research, regional bilingual proficiency and multicultural sensitivity. 2026-2027 Whiddon MD bulletin
Not published
The current official pages do not publish interview modality or location for Fall 2027, the number of interviews per applicant, whether the AMCAS profile is fully open file, question structure, preparation time, rubric, interview weight, interview-season dates or final score-combination formula.
Who this program may suit
Whiddon may suit applicants with a strong connection to Alabama and a record aligned with the state's physician-workforce needs. State residence is used in early review, more than 90% of current students are Alabama residents, and out-of-state applicants face explicit Alabama-ties and academic requirements. Whiddon future students
Interview preparation should emphasize clear communication, empathy, teamwork, leadership and sensitivity to the communities served. These are published selection considerations, not outcome predictions.
Practice and next step
Record one response to the featured scenario. Identify who is affected, avoid assumptions about behaviour, compare urgency and access barriers, and explain one consistent decision process.
Review one weakness, such as failing to explain a trade-off, overlooking a community constraint or giving a decision without empathy. Record the answer again with one deliberate adjustment and compare both attempts. Continue through the recommended path, and confirm interview modality from the official invitation before practising exact logistics.

Structured Interview Essentials
Build a repeatable spoken-answer loop across five common structured-interview skills: fair decisions, ethical reasoning, using feedback, teamwork under pressure, and explaining your motivation. Record each response once, choose the weakest one, review one observable weakness, and answer it again with one deliberate adjustment.
