Admission requirements

The regular four-year MD accepts U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, Canadian citizens and DACA applicants. Other international applicants are directed to the separate International Medicine Program. All MD applicants, regardless of pathway, must complete an undergraduate degree at a U.S. or Canadian institution before matriculation. GW FAQ

Required coursework must be completed by June 2027: one biology course with lab, one biochemistry course with lab if available, one organic chemistry course with lab and one physics course with lab if available. Graded or pass/fail, AP, online and community-college coursework may be accepted under the current policy. GW eligibility

The MCAT is required. For the 2027 cycle, GW generally accepts tests from January 2023 through August 31, 2026 and does not wait for later scores. PREview is also described as required and must have been completed from January 2023 through August 2026, but the same FAQ says the committee may make final decisions without a score. Applicants should treat PREview as required unless Admissions confirms an exception. GW FAQ

Applicants submit either a pre-health or premedical committee letter when available, or at least three individual letters including one from science faculty familiar with their academic work. Graduate or former professional-school applicants may need a direct letter of good standing after interview invitation. GW FAQ

Important dates

The current 2026-2027 FAQ sets November 2 as the AMCAS deadline and December 2 as the deadline for the GW secondary and all supporting materials, including letters sent through AMCAS. The school uses rolling admissions and encourages early completion. GW FAQ

No offer is made before October 15. The current admitted-applicant page is labelled Fall 2026, so its orientation, classes, Plan to Enroll and Commit to Enroll dates were not carried into this Fall 2027 packet. GW interviews

How selection works

GW reviews the complete file holistically, focusing on GPA, MCAT, graduate coursework, letters, essays, medically related experiences, research, extracurriculars, work, community service, clinical public health and leadership. State residency does not change the review standard. GW FAQ

The school also identifies attributes such as lifelong learning, professionalism, leadership, advocacy and innovation, resilience, interpersonal skill, meaningful service, work across populations and scholarly curiosity. GW admissions

Files may be reviewed several times or held for later re-review before an interview decision. After the interview, the file receives final review before the Committee on Admissions considers it. Possible outcomes are admission, alternate status or removal from consideration. GW interviews
