Admission requirements
Applicants must have completed at least four acceptable full-time undergraduate semesters. For OVC admissions, a full-time semester normally means at least 2.0 University of Guelph credits or the stated equivalent. Applicants need at least 75% or 3.2 on a 4.0 scale in the average of the eight prerequisites and separately in the most recent four acceptable full-time undergraduate semesters. The eight prerequisites cover two semester courses in biological sciences, plus cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, statistics, and two semester courses in humanities or social sciences. Domestic applicants must complete prerequisites by December 31 before entry; international applicants must complete them by August 31. Domestic Undergraduate and Domestic Graduate applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons and meet Ontario's 12-consecutive-month residency rule, excluding time enrolled in post-secondary school. The Northern Ontario cohort applies a defined Northern Ontario residency rule. All cohorts must complete Casper 2 (CSP-10211) in English. Applications also include veterinary and animal experience, other activities, personal reflections, and three referees, including a veterinarian who directly supervised the applicant. Important dates
For domestic undergraduate, Northern Ontario undergraduate, and graduate cohorts, applications and fees are due December 1, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. EST. The Background Information Form is due January 15, 2027 at 4:30 p.m. EST; the Casper score is due February 1 at 4:30 p.m.; and referee assessments and official transcripts are due March 1 at 4:30 p.m. OVC domestic deadlines
For international applicants outside the University of Guelph, the VMCAS application is due September 15, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. EST. International students already at Guelph use the internal-transfer route by October 1. International interview invitations are sent in mid-December for virtual interviews in January 2027. How selection works
OVC first calculates an Academic Average: 50% from the applicant's most recent four acceptable full-time undergraduate semesters and 50% from the eight prerequisite courses. Applicants must meet the published minimums before further consideration. OVC selection process
The school then calculates an Admissions Average weighted 75% Academic Average and 25% current Casper score. Applicants are ranked within their cohort, and the top-ranked files progress to review of experiences, personal statements, and referee assessments. Files that do not meet the committee's expectations are removed; the top remaining applicants are invited to interview. OVC does not publish numerical weights for the individual file-review elements. After the virtual interview, OVC combines the Admissions Average at 65% with the Interview Score at 35%. Applicants are re-ranked within cohort, and the committee approves offers to the highest-ranked applicants. OVC final selection

Who this program may suit
OVC may suit applicants seeking hands-on, interdisciplinary veterinary training with exposure to companion animals, large animals, rehabilitation, field service, and the connections among animal, human, and environmental health. The strongest practical fit constraints are cohort eligibility, Ontario or Northern Ontario residency for domestic routes, the course-load and prerequisite rules, and evidence that the applicant understands veterinary work beyond pet ownership.
