University at Buffalo Jacobs MD Admissions Guide (2027)

The University at Buffalo's Jacobs School uses mission-aligned, three-stage review: application screening, two separate interviews whose interviewers are blinded to GPA and MCAT, and final committee selection. The current calendar gives November 15 for AMCAS, December 1 for the supplemental and August–March interviews. Its MCAT page contains an internal cycle-label conflict, so the exact Fall 2027 accepted date window remains a publication blocker.

Admission requirements

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and complete at least two full years or 60 credit hours of higher education in the United States or Canada. At least half of the prerequisite coursework must be complete when the application is submitted, and all prerequisites must be finished before matriculation. Requirements

Required in-person coursework is two semesters each of biology with lab, general chemistry with lab, organic chemistry with lab and physics, with the physics lab optional, plus two semesters of English. Four social-science courses, two humanities courses and statistics, biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology are recommended. Prerequisites

The MCAT is required within three years of applying. The current requirements page says it accepts June 2023 through September 2026 scores and that September 2026 is the last accepted test, but labels that range '2026 matriculation.' Because the label and end date conflict, this packet does not present that range as a confirmed Fall 2027 rule. Requirements

Applicants submit either a pre-health committee letter or three recommendations, with at least one from a science professor. Graduate applicants may omit undergraduate letters but must submit letters from three graduate professors. Requirements

AAMC PREview is recommended but not required. For the 2027 application year, Jacobs says scores will be used only for research and will not be used to evaluate applications. Requirements

Important dates

The current admissions calendar accepts AMCAS applications from June 1 through November 15 and the Jacobs supplemental plus all required materials from June 1 through December 1. The detailed application page sets the December 1 deadline at 5 p.m. Eastern. Admissions How to apply

Interviews are scheduled August through March. Regular MD decisions begin at the end of December 2026 and continue on a rolling basis. Admissions Interview and selection

For Early Decision, AMCAS is due August 1, the supplemental and required materials August 31, and decisions October 1. These are EDP dates, not extra regular-cycle deadlines. Admissions

Material cycle caution: although the current calendar's December 2026 decision date aligns with the Fall 2027 application cycle, the MCAT requirements page labels a June 2023–September 2026 window as '2026 matriculation.' Reconfirm the accepted MCAT window directly with the school before publication.

How selection works

Jacobs uses mission-aligned review, balancing experiences, attributes and academic metrics in the context of the school's mission, curriculum, community health needs and physician-workforce goals. Review includes academic performance and MCAT in context, integrity, curiosity, leadership and community engagement. Admissions policies Interview and selection

The published policy describes three stages. First, reviewers screen the application holistically. Second, each invited applicant is separately interviewed by two Interview Subcommittee members; interviewers are blinded to GPA and MCAT and write narrative evaluations. A third interview may be added at committee discretion. Third, a selection subcommittee conducts a complete holistic review and makes the admissions decision. Admissions policy

Approximately 600 applicants are invited to interview between August and March. Regular decisions begin at the end of December and then roll. How to apply Interview and selection

The school does not publish numerical selection weights, a screening cutoff formula, interview score anchors or weight, or a final score-combination formula.

Not published

The current pages do not publish the Fall 2027 modality or location, duration, exact interviewer roles, whether interviewers see the non-academic portions of the file, question list, preparation time, scoring rubric, weights, assessor calibration or final score-combination method.

Who this program may suit

Jacobs frames admissions around its mission to advance health and wellness through education, research and clinical care. Its review seeks evidence of integrity, curiosity, leadership, community engagement and alignment with its curriculum, community-health needs and workforce goals. Admissions policies Interview and selection

Applicants should be able to discuss formative experiences without relying on GPA or MCAT as the answer's proof, because interviewers are blinded to those metrics. 'University at Buffalo School of Medicine' is a generic or historical alias for the same Jacobs MD school, not a separate record.

Practice and next step

Record one response to the featured prompt without referring to your GPA or MCAT. Explain the experience, your choices, the people affected, the values at stake and what you learned. Make the answer understandable to an interviewer evaluating attributes and experience rather than academic metrics.

Review whether the response demonstrates integrity, curiosity, leadership and community engagement with concrete evidence. Record it again with one improvement, then compare both attempts. Keep the timing adaptable until Jacobs publishes or communicates the current interview duration.

Recommended preparation

Structured Interview Essentials

Build a repeatable spoken-answer loop across five common structured-interview skills: fair decisions, ethical reasoning, using feedback, teamwork under pressure, and explaining your motivation. Record each response once, choose the weakest one, review one observable weakness, and answer it again with one deliberate adjustment.
