Admission requirements
Applicants need a bachelor's degree from a CHEA-accredited college or university. Required preparation is one academic year each of biology at the biology-major level, general chemistry with lab, organic chemistry with at least one lab and physics with lab, plus sufficient English composition or writing-intensive credit for the bachelor's degree. Health-care experience through shadowing, volunteering or employment is also required, without a published hour minimum. Premedical requirements

The current prerequisite page accepts online coursework and labs and accepts Pass/Fail or Credit/No Credit while preferring letter grades, but labels that paragraph for the 2025 application cycle. Important dates
For the 2027 cycle, AMCAS becomes available in May and submission begins in June. Regular applicants are strongly encouraged to submit by September 1; the final AMCAS deadline is October 15, 2026 and the complete-file deadline is November 15. How selection works
KU reviews complete Kansas-resident and strong-Kansas-tie applications first. Its published Kansas ties include current Kansas residence and work, a parent living in Kansas, graduation from a Kansas high school or four-year college and specified family connections to KU School of Medicine. Kansas residents or tied applicants with at least 502 MCAT and 3.4 BCPM GPA and no application red flags receive an automatic regular-decision interview for no more than two cycles; other tied applicants receive committee review. After interview, the Admissions Committee uses holistic review balancing metrics, experiences and attributes, including awareness of health-care issues, service commitment and potential to become a competent and compassionate physician. KU's mission emphasizes improving lives and communities in Kansas through education, research and health care. Applicants should show a specific understanding of Kansas health needs and a credible history of service, whether or not they are residents or have a formal tie. Selection process
