Admission requirements

Applicants need at least 46 semester or 66 quarter units from a regionally accredited institution and a VMCAS overall GPA of at least 2.80. Applicants below 2.80 may receive case-by-case review when their most recent 40 semester hours demonstrate academic improvement. A bachelor's degree is not required. Required study includes biology with laboratory, genetics, biochemistry, advanced science electives, organic chemistry with laboratory, general chemistry with laboratories, physics, anatomy with laboratory, physiology, English and social science. For the 2027 admissions cycle, LMU requires both anatomy and physiology rather than one or the other. Accredited online prerequisites and transcripted, subject-specific AP credit are accepted under the current FAQ.

Three recommendations must come from a college professor, veterinarian and employer or supervisor. LMU sets no fixed animal- or veterinary-experience hour minimum but expects enough exposure to support an informed career choice. The GRE is not required or considered. LMU evaluates academic performance, animal, research and veterinary experience, mission alignment, leadership and extracurricular activities, recommendations, essays and interview performance. Extra consideration is published for applicants from Appalachian Regional Commission counties, rural communities, first-generation college students and applicants who completed graduate study.
