Clinic appointment access and fairness
Practise making a fair decision when access is limited. Review whether you identify missing information, weigh both patients' needs, and explain the next step clearly; then record the scenario again with one improvement.

Admission requirements
Applicants must complete at least 90 semester hours before submitting the primary and earn a bachelor's degree by matriculation from an accredited U.S. or Canadian institution. Required coursework is one year each of general biology with labs, general chemistry with labs, organic chemistry with labs and physics with labs. Biochemistry, psychology and sociology are highly recommended. Required courses need a passing numerical, letter or pass/fail grade; AP and CLEP credit are accepted. Admissions criteria
The MCAT is required. For the 2026-27 application cycle, valid test dates run from January 2024 through September 2026. The current page publishes no minimum GPA or MCAT. Its recent mean GPA of 3.70 and mean MCAT of 513 are descriptive class statistics, not cutoffs.
A committee letter is strongly recommended when available. Otherwise, applicants need three individual letters: two from natural or physical science faculty, including neuroscience or research faculty, and one from a nonscience faculty member. Current or former graduate students need an additional thesis or graduate-advisor letter unless they submit a graduate committee letter. Applicants entering a one-year master's program also need an advisor letter confirming enrollment and anticipated completion. Application process
Only U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible. The school prefers Virginia residents, especially Hampton Roads residents, but explicitly encourages qualified out-of-state applications. Virginia domicile for in-state tuition generally requires at least one year before matriculation.
Important dates
The current recurring application contract accepts regular AMCAS applications from June 1 through November 1 and strongly encourages early submission. The overall admissions process runs from June through August of the following year. A school supplemental may be requested after AMCAS is received, but current official pages do not publish the Fall 2027 supplemental fee, deadline or whether every applicant receives one. Application process
The school interviews on Wednesdays and Fridays from September through March. Rolling general-pool offers begin October 15. The current acceptance protocol lists February 19 for Plan to Enroll, April 15 to narrow to three acceptances and April 30 to hold one acceptance, but it does not attach years to those recurring dates. Fall 2027 orientation and class-start dates are not published on the admissions pages reviewed.
How selection works
The primary application records academics, the personal statement and experiences such as healthcare work, volunteering and employment. Admissions may then invite a supplemental. The interview allows the committee to assess compassion, dedication and preparedness for medical education, motivation, sensitivity, cultural awareness, interpersonal skills, and the applicant's understanding of a physician's role and contribution to health and wellness. Application process Interview day
The school publishes no quantitative academic, experience or interview weighting; secondary-screen rubric; interviewer file-access rule; interview score anchors; committee voting threshold; or waitlist formula.

Who this program may suit
The school emphasizes healthcare needs in Eastern Virginia and expresses preference for Virginia residents, particularly Hampton Roads. Applicants from rural or underserved regions and applicants disadvantaged or underrepresented for economic, racial or social reasons are also encouraged. A persuasive fit case should connect a specific service or clinical experience to the needs of a community and to what the applicant would contribute in Norfolk. Admissions criteria
This is one current institutional identity. “Eastern Virginia Medical School” remains the school name inside Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University; legacy EVMS wording must not create a second school page. Graduate, linkage and pathway programs have separate contracts.
Practice and next step
Record one two-minute answer explaining what you learned from working with a community whose access to care was constrained. Review whether you described the people and barrier concretely, avoided speaking for the community and connected the lesson to your future role. Then record a second answer with one clearer example and compare the attempts.

Recommended preparation
Structured Interview Essentials
Build a repeatable spoken-answer loop across five common structured-interview skills: fair decisions, ethical reasoning, using feedback, teamwork under pressure, and explaining your motivation. Record each response once, choose the weakest one, review one observable weakness, and answer it again with one deliberate adjustment.
