Admission requirements

MUSC strongly prefers four years of college and a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited US institution before matriculation. In extremely rare circumstances, three years of exemplary college work with exceptional science GPA and DAT results may be considered. Community-college, technical-college and online prerequisites are accepted, as are AP credits under the published transcript process. Current DMD admissions

Required coursework is eight credits each of general chemistry with labs, organic chemistry with labs, biology or zoology with labs, physics with labs and upper-level natural-science electives with labs, plus six credits each of English and college mathematics.

The official US DAT must be less than five years old; Canadian DAT is not accepted. MUSC publishes descriptive accepted-student averages of 20 AA/21 DAT, 3.65 cumulative GPA and 3.59 science GPA, not admission thresholds. Applicants submit at least three individual recommendations or one confidential committee letter. Both AADSAS and the MUSC supplemental are required. MUSC welcomes international applicants, but the regular page requires prerequisites from a regionally accredited US institution.

Important dates

MUSC's current cycle timeline opens its application July 1, 2026 and closes December 15, 2026. AADSAS must be verified and both AADSAS and the MUSC supplemental must be complete by the deadline; applicants may submit updates later only if already complete. Current MUSC DMD page

ADEA AADSAS itself opened May 12, 2026 and accepted first submissions June 2. MUSC's page displays May 13 in its AADSAS timeline, a one-day discrepancy with ADEA's current official date that does not change MUSC's July 1 opening or December 15 gate. ADEA AADSAS dates The first-year summer term begins online at the end of May 2027 and in-person orientation is on the first business Monday in June; exact dates are not printed on the admissions page.

How selection works

After both applications are complete and AADSAS is verified, MUSC reviews the file and contacts selected applicants for interview. The programme describes preparation for clinical judgment, patient-centred care, ethical practice, scientific inquiry, service, leadership and interprofessional collaboration, but it does not publish a quantitative selection formula. Current DMD admissions

MUSC is South Carolina's only dental school and states that it seeks qualified in-state students as well as highly qualified applicants from near and far. Out-of-state applicants are eligible; no formal numerical preference, seat allocation or separate threshold is published. Interview scoring, factor weights, committee vote rules and wait-list ordering are not published.

Interview details

Not published

The current official page does not publish the Summer 2027 interview dates, platform, faculty file access, interview prompts, rubric, scoring scale, numerical weight or accommodation process.

Who this program may suit

MUSC's DMD combines early clinical exposure, digital dentistry, research and fourth-year community-based care across South Carolina. Applicants should connect preparation to patient-centred judgment, service and the communities they hope to support, without overstating an in-state admissions advantage. Current DMD programme This page covers the regular first-year DMD in Charleston, not MUSC Medicine, DMD/PhD, transfer, advanced standing, residencies, specialties or graduate programmes.

Practice and next step

Record a response about a patient-centred decision in which scientific evidence, communication and service responsibilities all matter. Ask a reviewer whether the answer names the tradeoff, explains your reasoning and stays within your role. Make one adjustment, record a second attempt and compare structure and judgment.

Recommended preparation

Structured Interview Essentials

Build a repeatable spoken-answer loop across five common structured-interview skills: fair decisions, ethical reasoning, using feedback, teamwork under pressure, and explaining your motivation. Record each response once, choose the weakest one, review one observable weakness, and answer it again with one deliberate adjustment.
