Admission requirements

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents and must establish Georgia domicile by application submission, then maintain domicile for the 12 consecutive months immediately before the first day of classes. Mercer says legal residency is only the eligibility floor: successful applicants generally have significant residential, family, personal or professional roots in Georgia and a commitment to the health needs of rural and underserved areas of the state. Applicants must finish any degree program in progress by June of the matriculation year. An offer is contingent on a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited U.S. institution and final official transcripts by June 30. Required laboratory coursework is two semesters each of general biology, general or inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and physics. One semester of biochemistry with lab may replace the second organic chemistry semester. Admissions process

AP credit may replace one semester of physics. AP credit in another required discipline must be followed by one year of advanced coursework with lab in the same discipline. All required courses need the corresponding lab. Admissions process

At least one MCAT must have been taken on or after April 1, 2023, with a percentile rank of at least 31. Mercer uses the highest MCAT score for secondary eligibility. For applicants without the published graduate-coursework exception, MCAT percentile multiplied by cumulative undergraduate BCPM GPA must be greater than 93. Applicants with an earned graduate degree or at least 20 graduate hours may receive a secondary invitation with an MCAT percentile of 31 or higher regardless of undergraduate BCPM GPA. Applicants submit at least three and no more than seven recommendations, or one committee letter, through AMCAS. Before an interview invitation is considered, at least three letters must be on file. Mercer recommends, where possible, a science faculty letter and a letter from a physician, health professional or health-care manager who knows the applicant. The secondary requires a $90 fee or AMCAS Fee Assistance waiver, Georgia domicile declaration, state-issued photo identification, prerequisite form and photograph. Admissions process

Important dates

AMCAS opens May 1, 2026, applicants may submit beginning May 31, and AMCAS begins transmitting data June 30. Mercer reviews complete applications and allocates interviews on a rolling basis. Application deadlines

For the regular pool, interviews run September 24, 2026 through February 11, 2027. The primary is due November 2, transcripts are due to AMCAS November 16, and all secondary components are due January 12, 2027 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern. For Early Decision, the primary and transcripts are due August 3, 2026; Mercer must receive GPA and MCAT results for the secondary screen by August 31 at 5:00 p.m.; and the complete secondary is due September 8 at 5:00 p.m. Interviews run August 18–September 17, and notification is September 30. How selection works

Mercer first applies its eligibility and secondary-screen rules. The Admissions Committee then uses holistic review across academic metrics, attributes and experiences, with particular emphasis on commitment to primary care in underserved and rural Georgia. A secondary invitation is necessary but does not guarantee an interview. Admissions process

Complete applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Interview invitations, ranking of interviewed applicants and admission offers also occur on a rolling basis. Mercer conducts MD interviews virtually through Zoom. Each applicant has one 30–45 minute conversation in a breakout room with two interviewers. One interviewer is an Admissions Committee member and may be basic-science faculty, clinical faculty or a senior medical student. Both interviewers receive the applicant's primary, secondary and recommendation letters before the interview and keep access through the application year. Applicants also spend one hour with MUSM Ambassadors, who are second-year medical students. Ambassadors generally do not see the application, but they assess the interaction and submit brief written comments. Those comments join the packet used by the committee to rate and rank applicants. The current official page does not publish a question bank, fixed competency domains, scoring anchors, numerical interview weight, exact interview-day order or break structure, committee vote mechanics or wait-list ranking. The invitation controls the candidate's exact schedule.

Who this program may suit

Mercer School of Medicine's MD mission is tightly tied to primary care and the health needs of rural and medically underserved Georgia. Applicants should use concrete Georgia experiences to show what they learned about access, continuity, trust or workforce constraints and how that shaped their intended contribution. Practice and next step

Record a 90-second answer to: Why is Mercer's rural and underserved Georgia mission personally credible for you? Name one community or care-access problem you have observed, what you actually did, what the experience changed in your understanding and how you would contribute as a student.

Then practise a 30-minute conversational interview with a partner who has your application and can probe gaps, decisions and motivation. End with a five-minute informal student interaction. Review whether your formal and informal answers tell the same story about judgment, service and Georgia commitment, revise one weak example and record it again.

Can an out-of-state resident apply to Mercer MD?
