Admission requirements
All science prerequisites must be complete with a posted grade when the applicant applies. Each requires at least 2.0/C or an accepted binary grade; the science-prerequisite and most-recent-three-semester GPAs must each be at least 3.0. General-education requirements are due July 1 of the matriculation year. A bachelor's degree is not required, but an earned bachelor's shown on the VMCAS transcript satisfies the general-education requirement. Current academic requirements
Science prerequisites cover mathematics; two introductory-biology terms with a lab; general chemistry I with lab; two organic-chemistry terms with a lab; biochemistry; two physics terms with labs; physiology; and one advanced-biology course. Biology prerequisites have a published eight-year recency rule. General education covers English composition, two social-science terms and two arts/humanities terms. Accredited online and community-college courses, including online labs, are accepted. Current academic requirements
MSU requires three VMCAS recommendations, including one from a licensed veterinarian whom the applicant shadowed, assisted or worked with. The college recommends 150 veterinary-experience hours but does not require an hour minimum. GRE and MCAT are neither required nor considered. Four MSU short-answer responses sit inside VMCAS, and MSU charges no additional application fee. Current application process
International applicants may apply. Foreign transcripts require a WES evaluation, and applicants who do not meet the published English-language exemption must satisfy TOEFL, IELTS or CAEL thresholds by the VMCAS deadline. International applicants
Important dates
The AAVMC 2027 applicant guide sets the VMCAS deadline at September 15, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern. MSU's current process page describes VMCAS opening in January, programme selection in May, the deadline in September, offers in early spring and April 15 as the offer, deposit and administrative-fee deadline. All science prerequisites must have grades at application. General-education requirements must be complete by July 1, 2027. MSU does not publish a current interview-invitation window, interview date, decision date within early spring, orientation date or class-start date on the regular-DVM admissions pages.
How selection works
MSU first applies its academic requirements: all science prerequisites complete, both published 3.0 GPAs met, three recommendations present and the VMCAS application verified. It then conducts holistic file review of experiences, recommendations, achievements, essays and academic metrics. The DVM landing page says interview invitations are based on the File Review Assessment and Academic Review. Current process Current DVM page
MSU maintains separate Michigan and nonresident applicant pools and says the acceptance ratio can shift with candidate qualifications and tuition needs; it does not publish a fixed in-state percentage. Current pages do not publish academic/file/interview weights, an interview cut score, final ranking rules or whether interview performance is independently scored. Class-composition policy
Interview details
Confirmed
Selected regular-DVM applicants are invited to interview after File Review Assessment and Academic Review. Current MSU pages also make the DVM interview invitation the point at which interested applicants become eligible to apply separately to the DVM/PhD programme. Current DVM page Current process
Not published
The current regular-DVM pages do not publish Fall 2027 interview dates, modality, location, duration, format, number or roles of interviewers, file access, questions, assessed competencies, accommodations, scoring rubric, interview weight or post-interview decision rule. Do not import information from Veterinary Nursing, the Veterinary Scholars pathway or DVM/PhD selection.
Who this program may suit
Michigan State may suit applicants seeking a four-year DVM in East Lansing who can finish every science prerequisite before applying and show learning, growth and professional attributes across essays, recommendations and varied experiences. The college describes veterinary careers spanning clinical practice, public health, research, industry and public service. DVM programme
This page covers the regular DVM only. Veterinary Nursing, the Veterinary Scholars Admissions Pathway, graduate programmes and DVM/PhD have different requirements or entry steps and must remain separate. Michigan and nonresident applicants compete in separate pools, but MSU does not promise a fixed current seat split.
Practice and next step
Record a concise answer about feedback that changed how you handled an animal-care, research, service or team responsibility. Review whether you name the feedback, the adjustment and the result, then record a second attempt that reaches the change earlier and cuts repeated setup.
