Admission requirements

Applicants need minimum cumulative and science GPAs of 3.0 and at least 64 semester or 96 quarter hours. Prerequisites are three hours biochemistry; eight biology; eight general chemistry with lab; eight organic chemistry with lab; six mathematics at college algebra or above; four physics with lab; six English composition; and eight science electives. A grade below C does not receive credit, and pass/fail science prerequisites are not accepted. A bachelor's degree is not required but makes a candidate more competitive. Current 2026-27 CVM catalog

At least 240 combined hours are required in veterinary practice, health science, biomedical research or non-veterinary animal experience; personal pet ownership generally does not count. Three recommendations are required, including one from a veterinarian; the others may come from veterinarians or undergraduate science professors. The college also expects understanding of veterinary medicine, service, motivation, communication, technical standards, a background check and compliance with its substance-abuse policy. No current school-specific GRE requirement is published.

International applicants may apply but must complete at least 30 semester hours at an eligible U.S. or English-language Canadian institution, including 15 science, six English composition and three speech/public speaking; other foreign work requires a course-by-course evaluation. VMCAS 2027 opened January 22, 2026 and closes September 15, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern. Midwestern uses rolling admissions and advises applicants to complete early. How selection works

Midwestern reviews academics, coursework, veterinary and non-veterinary experience, recommendations and, when required, an interview. Science GPA of at least 3.4 receives priority review. The school uses rolling review, interviews and decisions, and some qualified applicants who meet undisclosed criteria may be admitted without an interview.
