Admission requirements

A bachelor's degree is not required. Required courses cover English; college algebra or higher mathematics and statistics; general chemistry with labs, organic chemistry and biochemistry; introductory biology with lab, genetics and advanced biology; two terms of physics; and three liberal-education courses. Math and science prerequisites must ordinarily be within 10 years of the deadline. Current policy requires C- or better, letter grading unless a course is offered only pass/fail, and no more than five planned or in-progress math/science prerequisites. All prerequisites must be complete by the end of spring 2027; summer 2027 coursework is not permitted. Official transcripts go to VMCAS. Minnesota requires three VMCAS evaluations and accepts up to six; at least one from a DVM is strongly recommended. Interview invitations are typically sent in early January, with virtual interviews in late January or early February. Offers and wait-list notices usually follow in mid-February. Offers must be accepted or declined by April 15, 2027 with a non-refundable $500 deposit. How selection works

Minnesota uses three stages: academic measures, nonacademic review and a behavioural interview. Academic measures include the required-course GPA and most-recent-45-credit GPA. Applicants must reach committee-set academic and subjective-review standards to interview. Final decisions use scores from all three stages. Current evaluation process

Nonacademic review considers experiences, accomplishments, essays and recommendations under current published criteria. The current page does not publish numeric stage weights, an overall interview cut score or the final formula. Its academic section still illustrates calculations using the prior 2025–26 applicant years, so the statement that GPAs of 2.75 or below receive no points should not be presented as a newly confirmed Fall 2027 absolute minimum.

Advancing applicants complete a virtual behavioural interview, usually in late January or early February after invitations in January. It lasts about 45 minutes and contains seven questions: one unscored introduction and six scored competency questions. Two trained interviewers are drawn from veterinary faculty, professional staff, alumni and external veterinarians. Scored questions cover judgment, adaptability, communication, drive for results, autonomous and confident action, relationship building and integrity. Minnesota describes questions as asking for specific examples from past experience, often in a 'tell me about a time' form.
