Admission requirements

Applicants need at least 90 semester hours from a fully accredited U.S. or Canadian college or university; a completed bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred. Required work is two semesters each of writing-intensive humanities or social science, inorganic chemistry with lab, organic chemistry with lab, physics with lab, biology or zoology with lab, and mathematics; plus microbiology with lab and biochemistry, both at a senior college or university. The U.S. DAT is required and scores older than three years are not accepted. UMMC publishes no minimum GPA or DAT score on the current DMD pages reviewed.

Applicants need four AADSAS letters: two biology, chemistry or physics faculty; one dentist shadowed; and one community-service or volunteer recommender. A master’s programme letter replaces one science-faculty letter for applicants enrolled in or graduated from a master’s programme. Evaluation

At least 70 clinical-shadowing hours across four licensed dental providers are required, with each practice/site counting as one experience and at least one experience with a general dentist. At least 100 hours of community service are required, including 30 with vulnerable or disadvantaged populations.

UMMC accepts applications only from U.S. citizens or permanent residents. It gives preference to Mississippi and Arkansas residents and may decline applicants unable to demonstrate Mississippi residency under state law. Residency is determined from the UMMC secondary and, when requested, supporting review documents—not from AADSAS alone.

Important dates

ADEA’s 2026–27 AADSAS application opened May 12, 2026 and first accepted submissions June 2. UMMC’s current application page lists October 1 as the AADSAS deadline and November 1 as the UMMC deadline, with a $50 supplemental fee after primary verification. How selection works

UMMC screening uses academic metrics, DAT, shadowing, research, community service, professionalism, leadership and other noncognitive attributes. Published noncognitive domains include honesty and integrity, ethics and values, respect, critical thinking, communication, altruism, motivation for dentistry, accountability, maturity, leadership and self-appraisal. Interviewed files return to the Dental School Admissions Committee and dean. Deliberations consider context and life experience, screeners’ assessments, written application attributes, MMI ratings, recommendations, GPA and DAT trends, and mission alignment. The committee includes dental and medical faculty, private-practice representatives, dental students and administrators. UMMC does not publish numerical factor or MMI weights, thresholds, vote mechanics, post-interview formula or wait-list order.
