Admission requirements

UNMC requires the MCAT and at least 90 semester hours from an accredited liberal arts and sciences college; a major or undergraduate degree is strongly recommended. Required coursework is biology with lab, general chemistry with lab, organic chemistry with lab and physics with lab at 8–10 semester hours each; humanities or social sciences at 12–16; English writing or literature at 3; introductory calculus or statistics at 3; biochemistry at 3; and genetics at 3. The current cycle accepts all MCAT tests completed in calendar 2026. The current admissions brochure's illustrative age rule is labelled for the 2026 entering class, so it should not be converted into an exact Fall 2027 earliest test date. Applicants submit two letters from undergraduate faculty, including at least one premedical science instructor who taught them. A premedical committee report fulfills both; applicants more than four years from their undergraduate degree may use graduate instructors. UNMC accepts no more than four letters. MD admissions

Only U.S. citizens and applicants who secured permanent-resident status before applying are eligible. UNMC considers the total body of clinical exposure and volunteer work. Online lecture and laboratory coursework can fulfill some prerequisites, though classroom science is strongly encouraged. MD admissions

For the regular Fall 2027 MD cycle, AMCAS is due November 2, 2026. UNMC accepts any MCAT completed during calendar 2026. The supplemental application is due November 20, 2026 at 10 p.m. CST, and regular letters are due December 1. MD admissions

Early Decision is separate: AMCAS is due August 1, the last accepted EDP MCAT is July 31 with score release September 2, letters are due September 2, and decisions are sent by October 1. MD admissions

How selection works

After AMCAS verification, UNMC sends its supplemental application. A file becomes eligible for interview review after both are received; applicants who do not submit the supplemental are not considered for interview. Selected applicants then receive the scheduling step and are notified of any course deficiencies. MD admissions

UNMC reviews clinical exposure and volunteer work as part of the file. In the interview, academic credentials are withheld until the interview is complete so the conversation focuses on personality, general functioning, capabilities, motivation, responsibility, influences, rapport and communication. Who this program may suit

UNMC offers one MD curriculum at Omaha and Kearney. The Kearney version is academically identical and is designed for learners who may value a smaller, rural setting; assignment follows acceptance and the college tries to accommodate preferences while preserving fairness. Kearney questions

Applicants should assess fit through evidence of clinical exposure, service, collaboration and the ability to explain a considered motivation for medicine. A campus preference is not a separate pathway or a substitute for fit with the College of Medicine as a whole.
