Admission requirements

Applicants need a four-year undergraduate degree from an accredited U.S. postsecondary institution by matriculation, must complete the prerequisites by August 1 of the matriculation year, and must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or DACA recipient. Required semester credits are biology 15, including two lab and six upper division; chemistry 8 with at least two lab; organic chemistry 8 with at least two lab; physics 8 with at least two lab; biochemistry 3; and psychology or sociology 3. Courses require C- or above. Transcripted AP/IB can satisfy lower-division work but not labs; correspondence, CLEP and professional-school courses do not qualify. Prerequisites

Applicants must meet one academic route: cumulative undergraduate GPA 3.30, at least 30 post-baccalaureate credits at 3.50, or a completed graduate degree at 3.50, plus MCAT 500. Regular MD eligibility is geographically restricted. Category A includes Nevada high school or NSHE degree, current/recent Nevada residence, specified Nevada family residence, qualifying tribal or military ties, or a parent, grandparent or sibling connected to UNR Med. Category B includes legal residents of Alaska, Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington or Wyoming, specified extended-family Nevada residence, or previous Nevada residence. How selection works

UNR Med uses mission-based, competency-focused holistic review. It evaluates academic readiness, clinical exposure, service to vulnerable and underserved communities, reasoning and communication, maturity, humility, self-awareness, reliability, adaptability, teamwork, social skills, ethics and potential contribution. UNR Med's regular MD is designed around improving the health of Nevada communities, with a small class and emphasis on service, rural and underserved populations, early patient exposure and community participation. MD admissions process

Applicants should first confirm geographic eligibility. Then test fit through concrete evidence of Nevada or western-community understanding, sustained clinical exposure, service and the ability to work with humility across different populations. The all-state MD-PhD eligibility rule is separate and must not be imported into regular MD.
