Admission requirements

Required premedical coursework, completed within ten years of enrollment with grades of C- or higher, is two semesters or three quarters each of biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry and physics, plus one semester or quarter of biochemistry. General chemistry and physics include laboratory work; organic chemistry includes one year of lab experience or an equivalent. Requirements must be complete by the Commit to Enroll deadline. Online lecture courses can count, but labs must be in person. Requirements

The MCAT is required. For Fall 2027, scores from January 1, 2023 through September 30, 2026 are accepted, and a valid score is required to receive a secondary. Ohio State does not publish a numeric minimum GPA or MCAT on its current requirements page; class-profile figures are descriptive, not thresholds. Timeline Requirements

At least two letters are required through AMCAS, including at least one from an instructor who taught and graded the applicant in a BCPM subject. A premedical committee composite can satisfy that requirement. Ohio State recommends additional letters from supervisors or people who observed community, volunteer, clinical or research work and sets no stated maximum. Requirements

Ohio State accepts in-state and out-of-state applicants and reports no regular-path residency requirement. The current regular first-year admissions pages reviewed for this guide do not publish a complete citizenship, DACA or international eligibility rule; applicants whose status may affect eligibility should confirm directly with Admissions rather than rely on the separate transfer policy.

How selection works

Ohio State considers academics alongside experiences, interests, recommendations, research, leadership, extracurricular responsibilities, compassion and humanity. Competitive applicants are invited to complete the secondary only after a verified AMCAS application and valid MCAT are received. Requirements How to apply

Interviewed applicants are presented to an admissions committee of faculty, community physicians, physician trainees and medical students for a vote at the end of each interview day. Decisions are rolling about every two weeks, with accepted, deferred and rejected outcomes beginning October 15. Selection

The school does not publish numeric component weights, secondary-screen cutoffs, interview scoring anchors or committee vote thresholds.

Who this program may suit

Ohio State looks for academic preparation together with research understanding, leadership, service, teamwork, compassion and the ability to manage responsibilities outside the classroom. Applicants should connect those qualities to specific actions and learning rather than repeating the mission statement. Requirements

This guide covers the regular four-year Columbus MD. Do not import dates or additional interviews from the three-year Primary Care Track, Community Medicine Track or MSTP.

Practice and next step

Record a 90-second response about a research, service or leadership experience. Explain your responsibility, one decision you made and what you learned about working with others. Review whether your role and reflection are specific, adjust the weakest section, record a second response and compare the two attempts.

Recommended preparation

Structured Interview Essentials

Build a repeatable spoken-answer loop across five common structured-interview skills: fair decisions, ethical reasoning, using feedback, teamwork under pressure, and explaining your motivation. Record each response once, choose the weakest one, review one observable weakness, and answer it again with one deliberate adjustment.
