Admission requirements

Ohio State requires prerequisite study from an accredited college or university. Biochemistry, microbiology with lab, comprehensive physiology and public speaking/communication each require C or better; together they must average at least 3.00 and may include no more than one C. The broader guideline includes 35 science-elective and 16 humanities/social-science credits. All prerequisites must be complete by the end of Summer 2027. Ohio State's checklist publishes minimums of 3.20 overall, 3.00 science and 3.00 for the last 30 credits, and then says applications below 3.20 are not considered. The same page also says GPA is not absolute, creating an internal wording tension. Treat the numeric values as published screening thresholds and do not promise exceptions.

Three recommendations are required, at least one from a veterinarian; up to six may be submitted. Relatives cannot write them. There is no minimum animal or veterinary experience-hour requirement. The GRE is not required or reviewed. The current regular-DVM pages do not publish a Casper, PREview or other situational-test requirement outside the situational questions used in the interview.

The current AAVMC 2027 contract makes VMCAS due September 15, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern. Ohio State recommends sending transcripts by September 1 and recommendations by August 15, while its checklist identifies September 15 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern as the official reference deadline. After VMCAS verification, Ohio State emails a supplemental link; the supplemental is due 10 days after the email. The national offer-acceptance deadline is April 15, 2027. Prerequisites must finish by the end of Summer 2027, and admitted applicants send final transcripts to Ohio State by August 1, 2027.

Ohio State's checklist still carries a Class of 2029 heading alongside recurring October-to-March review, invitation, interview and decision windows. Do not present those months as a dated Fall 2027 commitment. The exact Fall 2027 interview dates, offer-release dates and orientation date are not currently published.

How selection works

The objective evaluation is 20% and uses VMCAS overall GPA, science GPA and last-30-credit GPA. The admissions committee file review is 30% and considers recommendations, animal, veterinary and work experience, community service, extracurricular activity, leadership, honours and awards. For interview invitation, qualifying file-review scores are reweighted to 80% and combined with the 20% objective score. Current selection process

The subjective interview is 50% of the final score. Offers use the combined 50% interview, 30% file-review and 20% objective score. Ohio State does not publish a fixed Ohio-resident/nonresident seat allocation on the current admissions page. It says admitted out-of-state students may apply for Ohio residency after year one and then pay in-state tuition plus $5 per semester, subject to registrar rules; that is a tuition rule, not evidence of an admissions preference.
