Admission requirements

OHSU suggests at least three years of study, 90 semester or 135 quarter hours, at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada at application. A bachelor's degree is not required but is highly recommended and receives preference. Current DMD requirements

With grades of C or higher, applicants complete biology with labs for three quarters or two semesters; general chemistry with labs for three quarters or two semesters; organic chemistry with labs for two quarters or two semesters; physics with labs for three quarters or two semesters; one quarter or semester of biochemistry, with the lab recommended; three quarters or two semesters of English composition; and one quarter or semester of mathematics or statistics. Foreign coursework outside the United States or Canada is generally not accepted. Prerequisites taken pass/no-pass do not count except when a school offers only that grading mode for a lab. Course-specific, transcripted AP or IB can count; online prerequisites are accepted but a traditional setting is strongly recommended.

The American DAT is required, Canadian DAT is not accepted, only the most recent score is considered and scores older than three years are excluded. No numerical GPA or DAT minimum is published. OHSU recommends at least 50 dental-observation hours, at least 25 in general practice. Required evaluations are either a pre-professional committee letter or two natural-basic-science faculty letters plus one dentist or dental-specialist letter.

The current OHSU admissions page sets January 1 as the AADSAS deadline, the deadline for the $75 OHSU application fee and the priority deadline for official DAT scores. Interviews run September through March, offers run December through March, and classes begin in late June; dates may vary. How selection works

OHSU considers scholastic performance, course quantity and rigor, DAT results, the personal statement and evaluations. Leadership, community service, volunteer work, dental-field experience, extracurricular activity, employment, research and broader life experience also contribute. OHSU DMD selection

OHSU is state-assisted and gives preference to Oregon residents; it publishes no fixed quota, though a majority of the incoming class will be Oregon residents. Residency generally requires living and working in Oregon for at least one year before matriculation for purposes other than education, subject to the formal policy. The school does not publish factor weights, interview scoring, committee vote rules or wait-list ordering.
