Admission requirements

Applicants need at least three years—90 semester or 135 quarter hours—at a regionally accredited college or university; a bachelor's degree is preferred. PNWU publishes minimum GPAs of 2.85 overall and 3.0 across prerequisites. At application, no more than three prerequisites may be outstanding; all must be completed within seven years of matriculation and no later than the spring term before entry. Required lecture coursework is six semester hours each of general chemistry, organic chemistry, general biology or zoology, and combined or separate human anatomy and physiology; plus three each of biochemistry, microbiology, physics, English and social or behavioural science. Laboratory courses do not replace these lecture-credit requirements.

The DAT is not required. PNWU requires at least 50 hours of in-person dental shadowing and 50 volunteer or community-service hours within the previous three years; virtual shadowing does not count. Shadowing is waived for applicants with at least 1,000 hours as a dental assistant or hygienist. Three recommendations are required: one from a science instructor, one from a dentist and a third from a permitted evaluator. Applicants should demonstrate interest in rural or medically underserved care. The current source does not publish citizenship, visa or state-residency eligibility rules.

Important dates

ADEA AADSAS opened May 12, 2026 and accepted first submissions June 2. PNWU's school deadline is October 16, 2026, and the file must contain all required documents by that date. The live notification page still refers to the Class of 2030, which belongs to the preceding cohort; its class label was not reused for Fall 2027. PNWU does not publish the exact Fall 2027 start date or a cycle-specific decision schedule beyond current ADEA notification timing.

How selection works

PNWU uses holistic review of academic record, experiences, personal attributes and mission alignment. Applicants may be invited to complete a Kira Talent assessment and may then be invited to interview. Published qualities include rural and underserved service, empathy and compassion, intellectual curiosity, leadership, communication, teamwork and informed familiarity with dentistry and healthcare. The school does not publish a regional-residency preference, quantitative weights, Kira threshold, academic ranking formula, committee voting rules, interview weight or wait-list order. Its first cohort was 75% from the Northwest, but that descriptive outcome is not an admission preference and is not presented as one.

The committee invites no more than 100 candidates by email to an in-person interview at the Yakima campus. The day runs approximately 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. and includes school presentations, campus and community-clinic tours, lunch with DMD students and an interview with the Admissions Committee. Yes. CODA granted Initial Accreditation effective August 8, 2024. This is the accreditation stage for a developing programme; PNWU says later visits continue before the inaugural class graduates.

No. The current admissions page explicitly says it is not required, although prior scores included by AADSAS remain visible.

Is a bachelor's degree mandatory?

No. Ninety semester hours are required and a bachelor's degree is preferred.
