Admission requirements

Penn Vet publishes no minimum GPA, although it recommends 3.00 or above and says the typical entering average is approximately 3.60. Applicants may matriculate without a bachelor's degree if they have at least 90 college credits; fewer than 1% do so. Penn recommends 600 veterinary hours but sets no fixed experience minimum. Before matriculation, applicants must earn C or better in English, humanities or social sciences, physics with laboratories, chemistry including general and organic chemistry and laboratory work, biology or zoology including genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, calculus and statistics. Applicants may apply with courses incomplete; Penn audits requirements after deposit and expects completion by late July 2027. Transcripted AP and accredited online coursework may count under the published rules.

Three recommendations are required: one from a science academic is strongly preferred, one from a veterinarian and one from a person of the applicant's choice. Penn reads up to six. The GRE is not accepted or considered. International applicants may need a WES evaluation and TOEFL unless eligible for an English-instruction waiver.

Penn reviews the complete application and selects candidates for interview. It publishes no numerical weighting for GPA, experiences, recommendations, supplemental responses or interview performance. The interview evaluates understanding of and commitment to veterinary medicine, communication, determination and overall interest in Penn Vet.
