Admission requirements

Matriculants need an undergraduate degree that includes at least one year of postsecondary education in the United States or Canada. Pitt generally considers students and graduates of accredited colleges and only exceptionally considers applicants with fewer than 120 undergraduate hours. Foreign-course acceptance is individual. Online degrees need an additional year of in-person instruction at a recognized regionally accredited U.S. or Canadian institution. Academic requirements Selection factors

Required preparation is one year each of biology with lab, general or inorganic chemistry with lab, physics with lab and English or intensive writing; one half year each of organic chemistry with lab, biochemistry and statistics, preferably biostatistics. Pass/fail, online prerequisite coursework and labs, transcripted AP credit and community-college courses are accepted; CLEP is not. Academic requirements

The MCAT is required. For 2027 matriculation, accepted exams run from January 1, 2023 through October 15, 2026, and scores must reach AMCAS by November 15, 2026. Pitt considers the highest total score and publishes no minimum GPA or MCAT. MCAT

Applicants submit at least three recommendations or a committee letter, with five total letters maximum. Pitt prefers letters from professors or important mentors who know the applicant well. How selection works

Pitt reviews the AMCAS academic information, essay and activities, supplemental essays, recommendations and personal interviews. It assesses academic performance, research, leadership and teamwork, healthcare experience, communication, professionalism, cultural competence, service orientation, integrity, ethics, resilience and capacity for improvement. The approximately three-hour day includes check-in and welcome, a 45-minute one-on-one faculty interview, a 40-minute one-on-one current-medical-student interview and a closing session, with short breaks.
