Admission requirements

Applicants need at least 60 college credits from an accredited institution and a minimum 3.00 overall GPA. Rowan includes repeated and graduate coursework in that GPA. A bachelor's degree is not required, although the school says most successful applicants will have completed one. No minimum animal or veterinary experience hours are required, but applicants should demonstrate understanding of the profession and varied exposure. Prerequisites require C- or better and include six credits of English or writing, three of math, six of general biology with in-person labs, three of microbiology, six of upper-level biology, three of genetics, six of general chemistry with in-person labs, four of organic chemistry with an in-person lab, three of biochemistry and six of social science or humanities. Rowan accepts qualifying online lectures, but laboratories designated as required must be in person outside its published Spring 2020 through Spring 2022 exception. There is no science-course recency limit. At most two prerequisites may be in progress when applying; all must be complete and transcripts submitted by July 31, 2027.

GRE, MCAT and Casper are not required and are not evaluated. International applicants may apply and must meet Rowan's English-proficiency policy. Exact international transcript-evaluation, visa and financial-document requirements are not published on the current school-specific page.

Important dates

The Shreiber page says applications for the next regular cycle are accepted through VMCAS but does not label a school-specific closing date. The current AAVMC 2027 applicant guide sets the VMCAS deadline at September 15, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern. Rowan says closing dates are enforced without exception. Current VMCAS guide

Any remaining prerequisites and their transcripts are due July 31, 2027. The national acceptance deadline is April 15, 2027. Rowan has not published current Fall 2027 interview dates, invitation timing, offer dates, deposit amount, wait-list calendar, orientation or first day of classes.

The separate 3+4 Accelerated BS/DVM Pathway will not accept applications for the 2027–28 academic year. Its pathway rules must not be applied to regular VMCAS applicants.

How selection works

Stage 1 verifies the VMCAS application, transcripts, recommendations and prerequisites; only eligible applicants advance. Stage 2 assigns up to 35 academic points and 65 nonacademic points. Academic review uses overall GPA, prerequisite GPA and last-45-hour GPA. Nonacademic review considers statements, references, understanding of veterinary medicine, animal and veterinary experiences, achievements, service and experience outside veterinary medicine. Top-ranked Stage 2 applicants advance to a virtual MMI worth 25 points. Final ranking totals 125 points: 35 academic, 65 nonacademic and 25 interview. The committee makes recommendations to the dean, who approves and extends offers. Finalists are selected from separate New Jersey and out-of-state pools; Rowan anticipates approximately half of students in each pool. New Jersey status requires evidence of domicile during the 12 months preceding application and cannot be established solely by attending school in the state.

The school admitted 75 students to its inaugural Class of 2029 and says it will increase toward 90 per cohort. This is programme-readiness context, not confirmation of the exact Fall 2027 class size.

Who this program may suit

Rowan may fit applicants seeking a new, provisionally accredited four-year DVM in New Jersey with transparent selection weights and a virtual MMI. Its published process gives 65 application-review points to nonacademic evidence and names compassion, collaboration, trust, respect, empathy and public service in its mission-aligned review.
