The current pages do not publish Fall 2027 Plan to Enroll or Commit to Enroll dates, orientation, first class date, final alternate-list closure or individual interview dates.
How selection works
NJMS uses comprehensive, mission-aligned and individualized review. Published factors include academic performance and trends, MCAT, interpersonal skills, professionalism, emotional intelligence, motivation, reflection, leadership, self-awareness, ethics, resilience, service, humanism, extracurricular engagement and contribution to a diverse learning environment. Application process
The 2026 pamphlet adds patient-care experience, health equity and social justice, empathy, humility, teamwork, maturity, critical thinking and cultural humility. Complete files are screened for interview, then selected applicants complete a traditional one-on-one interview. Regular decisions roll from October 15 through March, with strong applicants potentially placed on an alternate list. 2026 admissions pamphlet Selection process
NJMS does not publish numerical component weights, screening formula, interview scoring anchors, committee voting rules or the relative value of state residency.
Interview details
Confirmed
NJMS describes traditional one-on-one interviews. Applicants are interviewed by medical school faculty and administrators, and the conversation generally lasts about one hour, although length varies. Discussion may cover personal and educational achievements, motivation, drive, ability, background, personality, long-term goals and extracurricular activities. 2026 admissions pamphlet Interview
The school advises applicants to know their own story, connect experiences to medicine and understand NJMS's mission and values. 2026 admissions pamphlet
Not published
Current official sources do not state interview modality or location, whether there is exactly one interview, interviewer file access, standardized question structure, scoring rubric, interview weight or applicant-specific schedule.
Who this program may suit
NJMS's current mission and admissions goals emphasize humanistic medicine, equitable care, service, patient-care experience, leadership, resilience and connection to Newark's diverse communities. Application process 2026 admissions pamphlet
Applicants should assess fit with current NJMS, not the future unified school. Rutgers anticipates LCME action in June 2027 and says the first unified Rutgers School of Medicine class starts in summer 2028. Fall 2027 remains an NJMS admissions identity distinct from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Integration process
Practice and next step
Record a two-minute response about an experience that tested your commitment to service when recognition or convenience was absent. Review whether your answer shows patient or community context, your specific action and honest learning. Improve one weak transition, record a second response and compare credibility and clarity.

Recommended preparation
Structured Interview Essentials
Build a repeatable spoken-answer loop across five common structured-interview skills: fair decisions, ethical reasoning, using feedback, teamwork under pressure, and explaining your motivation. Record each response once, choose the weakest one, review one observable weakness, and answer it again with one deliberate adjustment.
