Admission requirements
At application, Rutgers requires eight credits each of biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry and physics, all with laboratory instruction, plus six English credits. Advanced Placement coursework does not satisfy these requirements. Predental requirements
DAT scores are required, and the current FAQ says an interview cannot be granted until scores arrive. Scores are accepted for three admissions cycles. Rutgers publishes no minimum GPA or DAT score and describes its screening as holistic. The current page does not state a minimum total college-credit count or mandatory bachelor's degree; do not infer one.
Submit one pre-health committee letter, which is preferred, or three individual letters, two from science faculty and a third from another source. A complete file includes AADSAS, required credentials and DAT. Rutgers does not use a supplemental application but charges a $125 processing fee when Admissions contacts the applicant.
Important dates
ADEA's 2026-27 AADSAS application opened May 12, 2026, first accepted submissions June 2 and closes February 5, 2027. Rutgers directs applicants to the current AADSAS instructions for its filing window and does not publish a separate dated Fall 2027 school deadline. Application page
ADEA's national first acceptance notification date is December 15, 2026, and Rutgers says its acceptance notices begin December 15. The school describes admissions after January 1 as rolling. Rutgers does not publish Fall 2027 interview dates, orientation, matriculation or final class start.
How selection works
Rutgers uses individualized file review. Published criteria include academic performance, DAT, leadership, compassion, broad extracurricular activity, language use, manual dexterity, motivation and perseverance. Predoctoral selection
Selected applicants receive an electronic interview invitation; no applicant is admitted without interview. Rutgers publishes no academic screen thresholds, numerical weights, how manual dexterity is evaluated, interview scoring, committee vote mechanics, wait-list ordering or New Jersey-resident preference.
Interview details
Confirmed
The Admissions Committee invites selected applicants electronically. An interview is required for acceptance and cannot be obtained by applicant request. Applicants must confirm attendance, and DAT scores must be received before an interview can be granted. Application page
Not published
Rutgers does not publish current-cycle interview dates, modality or location, number or duration of encounters, one-to-one, panel or MMI structure, interviewer roles/file access, question domains, scoring rubric or numerical weight. A hotel FAQ does not establish current in-person modality.
Who this program may suit
Rutgers' traditional Newark DMD emphasizes intensive clinical experience, early patient-care exposure and service to a diverse patient population. Its review also names compassion, leadership, manual dexterity, motivation and perseverance. A fit response should use a concrete dental or service experience to show observation, action and growth. Traditional DMD
This page excludes NJMS and RWJMS medicine, BA/DMD and early-assurance routes, the internationally educated DMD, graduate study and specialties.
Practice and next step
Record a response about a service or dental experience that demonstrates compassion and perseverance without relying on labels. Ask a reviewer to identify whether the situation, your action and the effect on another person are specific. Make one adjustment, record a second attempt and compare clarity, reflection and evidence.

Recommended preparation
Structured Interview Essentials
Build a repeatable spoken-answer loop across five common structured-interview skills: fair decisions, ethical reasoning, using feedback, teamwork under pressure, and explaining your motivation. Record each response once, choose the weakest one, review one observable weakness, and answer it again with one deliberate adjustment.
