Admission requirements

Regular MD applicants need the MCAT and a bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. or Canadian college or university. Foreign coursework must be validated or accepted by an accredited U.S. institution. SKMC prefers traditionally graded work to pass/fail work. Applying

SKMC describes biology, general and organic chemistry and physics as the minimum science preparation and expects laboratory experience, but it does not publish semester-credit counts. Humanities, social and behavioral sciences and effective writing are strongly suggested. Applicants using advanced-placement credit are encouraged to add coursework in similar subjects. Applying

The MCAT may be taken during the three years before application. The current pages publish no numeric GPA or MCAT minimum and no exact earliest accepted test date for Fall 2027. A complete file needs an $80 secondary fee, MCAT and either one committee letter, one letter packet or three individual letters. Individual letters may come from completed science or humanities coursework, research, shadowing, medical, volunteer or community experiences; no more than six are recommended. Applying

The current regular-MD pages do not publish a citizenship, permanent-residency or state-residency restriction. Do not infer eligibility from the 2026 class profile or foreign-coursework rule; applicants whose status is material should confirm it with SKMC Admissions before applying.

Important dates

AMCAS opens May 1, 2026. The regular MD AMCAS deadline is November 15, 2026, and all supporting application documents are due January 1, 2027. Interview invitations begin in mid-July, and the cycle-specific timeline places interviews on Wednesdays from September 2026 through March 2027. Deferral requests are due May 1, 2027. Timeline

The general applying page says interviews run from mid-September through February, while the more specific 2027 timeline says September through March. Use the invitation as the scheduling authority. SKMC does not publish current regular-MD decision-release dates, wait-list mechanics, orientation or Commit to Enroll deadline on these applicant pages.

How selection works

SKMC first reviews a complete AMCAS, secondary, fee, MCAT and letter file. Interview selection considers academic performance, recommendations and community involvement. Final selection also considers college and academic record, MCAT, nonacademic and out-of-class experiences, community and medical activities, plus motivation, leadership potential, maturity, intellect, humanitarian concern, compassion, communication, dedication, integrity and commitment assessed through interview. Selection factors

The interview is required for acceptance. SKMC publishes no numeric component weights, GPA or MCAT screening thresholds, interview scoring anchors, committee-vote rules or current decision schedule.

Not published

The current pages do not publish each interview's duration, interviewer file access, question domains, scoring rubric, numerical weight or the exact daily end time. Invitation instructions control the final schedule.

Who this program may suit

SKMC explicitly considers community and medical activities, communication, compassion, integrity, leadership potential and commitment alongside the academic record. Applicants should use specific evidence of service, teamwork and informed exploration of medicine rather than relying on labels. Selection factors

This guide covers the regular Philadelphia MD only. MD/PhD, Early Decision, accelerated routes, DIMER, PSAP and other special programs have distinct criteria or dates and are excluded.

Practice and next step

Record a 90-second response about a community commitment, a difficult team interaction or an experience that clarified why you want to practise medicine. Review whether the example demonstrates your action, communication and reflection. Choose one vague section, make it specific, record a second attempt and compare clarity and evidence.

Recommended preparation

Structured Interview Essentials

Build a repeatable spoken-answer loop across five common structured-interview skills: fair decisions, ethical reasoning, using feedback, teamwork under pressure, and explaining your motivation. Record each response once, choose the weakest one, review one observable weakness, and answer it again with one deliberate adjustment.
