Admission requirements
Applicants must complete at least three college years or 90 credits before matriculation. Required work before application is two semesters with labs each of biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry and physics; two writing-intensive English semesters; one biochemistry semester; and either Calculus I and II or Calculus I and statistics. Current requirements A bachelor's degree is described as highly desirable.
Published preferred criteria are 3.0 total GPA, 3.0 science GPA and 17 each in DAT Academic Average, Perceptual Ability and Total Science; these are preferences, not labelled absolute cutoffs. The U.S. DAT is mandatory, and the current page says the Canadian DAT is not accepted. The page's score-validity sentence is internally ambiguous because it says tests after June 1, 2021 are accepted for the 2026-27 admissions cycle; do not translate that into a precise Fall 2027 test window without school confirmation.
At least 50 hours of dental assisting and/or shadowing are required. A committee letter or packet is encouraged; where unavailable, three recommendations are considered. International transcripts require WES or ECE evaluation, and applicants whose primary language is not English need the published TOEFL or IELTS evidence.
Important dates
ADEA's 2026-27 AADSAS application opened May 12, 2026 and first accepted submissions June 2. ADEA dates Stony Brook's school deadline is October 1, 2026, and applications must be verified with supporting documents and the $100 supplemental fee received before review. Stony Brook admissions
The current Stony Brook page still says applications are accepted beginning June 4 and that rolling acceptances begin December 13, while its date table gives December 15 and current ADEA gives June 2. Use June 2 as the service submission date and December 15 as the current ADEA notification date; preserve the stale prose as a source conflict.
How selection works
Once AADSAS materials and the $100 fee are complete, applicants meeting preferred criteria may be invited to an online Kira Talent assessment. The Admissions Committee uses Kira together with the AADSAS application to decide whom to interview. Interviewed files then proceed to committee decision, with offers made on a rolling basis. Selection stages
The school does not publish numerical factor weights, whether every candidate meeting preferred criteria receives Kira, how Kira is scored, the interview-to-offer formula, committee vote mechanics or wait-list ordering.
Interview details
Confirmed
Interview is by invitation and is required for applicants under serious consideration. Before interview selection, eligible complete applicants may be invited to an online Kira Talent assessment; the committee uses that assessment with the AADSAS file. Stony Brook admissions
Not published
The current official page does not publish whether the later interview is virtual or in person, its location, number or length of conversations or stations, interviewer identities or file access, assessed domains, scoring rubric, quantitative weight or exact interview dates.
Who this program may suit
Stony Brook publishes a science-intensive readiness contract alongside dental exposure and a pre-interview Kira stage. A fit response should connect one observed dental-care problem to the applicant's academic preparation and reflection rather than repeating score averages. DDS admissions
This page covers the regular first-year DDS in Stony Brook. It excludes Renaissance School of Medicine MD admissions, undergraduate Dental Scholars, advanced specialty programmes and any future Advanced Standing route; Stony Brook currently says it is not considering Advanced Standing applications.
Practice and next step
Record a timed response about a dental assisting or shadowing moment that changed how you understand patient communication. Ask a reviewer to identify whether the observation, your reflection and your next action are concrete. Make one adjustment, record a second attempt and compare focus and credibility.

Recommended preparation
Structured Interview Essentials

Record each response once, choose the weakest one, review one observable weakness, and answer it again with one deliberate adjustment.
