SUNY Upstate MD Admissions: Fall 2027 Cycle

SUNY Upstate has launched its 2026–27 MD admissions cycle. Its current admissions pages list an October 15 AMCAS deadline and a December 1 complete-file deadline, accept MCATs from 2023 onward for this cycle and give priority to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. The school reviews applicants holistically. Current official pages conflict on whether interviews are traditional, MMI and virtual or on campus, so applicants should use their invitation for controlling format and logistics.

Current graduate students add a graduate adviser or department-chair letter. Applicants out of school and employed full time for more than five years provide a science-prerequisite faculty letter and a current-supervisor letter. Up to two extra letters are allowed. Letters

Who this program may suit

Upstate highlights academic readiness, clinical exposure, service, research, leadership and personal qualities. A strong application should connect those areas to specific responsibilities, learning and evidence of readiness for patient-centered medical training. Cycle announcement

This page covers the regular four-year Syracuse MD. Do not import admissions rules for the three-year accelerated pathway or combined programs.

Practice and next step

Record a 90-second response about a clinical, service or teamwork experience. Name the situation, your responsibility, the action you took and what changed in your judgment. Review whether the answer is specific and reflective, adjust the weakest section, record a second response and compare the two versions.

Recommended preparation

Structured Interview Essentials

Build a repeatable spoken-answer loop across five common structured-interview skills: fair decisions, ethical reasoning, using feedback, teamwork under pressure, and explaining your motivation. Record each response once, choose the weakest one, review one observable weakness, and answer it again with one deliberate adjustment.
