Admission requirements

Applicants need at least 90 semester hours from an accredited college or university. A bachelor's degree, particularly in the sciences, is preferred but not mandatory. Current DMD admissions page

Required coursework is eight semester hours with laboratory experience in each of biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry and physics, plus six hours of English. Exposure to advanced anatomy, biochemistry, histology and physiology is strongly recommended.

The DAT is required and the application is not reviewed without a reported score. Temple recommends testing no later than August 31, excludes scores more than two years old at application and accepts the Canadian DAT. It publishes no numerical DAT or GPA minimum. Applicants submit two recommendations from science professors or pre-health committee members. The current page does not publish a regular-DMD shadowing-hour minimum, citizenship rule or international-course policy.

Important dates

For Fall 2027, Temple's live admissions page requires the AADSAS application to be complete and verified by January 15 at 11:59 p.m. EST and the supplemental application fee by January 20 at 5 p.m. EST. ADEA AADSAS opened May 12, 2026, accepted first submissions June 2 and closes February 5, 2027, but Temple's earlier January deadline governs. ADEA AADSAS dates Temple's live admissions page says decisions are made December 15 or the following business day. The current bulletin says December 1, creating a material official-source conflict; use the current admissions page and ADEA's current December 15 notification date. Exact interview dates, supplemental fee amount and Fall 2027 matriculation date are not published.

How selection works

Temple evaluates applicants using qualitative and quantitative criteria, then combines the score with holistic review to rank applicants into interview and admission tiers. The formal interview helps the committee assess motivation, approach to problems and communication. Temple does not publish the formula, factor weights, screening cutoffs, interview score, committee vote rules, residency allocation or wait-list ordering.
