Admission requirements
Texas A&M requires at least 90 semester hours from a U.S.-accredited institution and recommends a bachelor's degree. All prerequisites must be undergraduate courses completed with C or better: six hours English; three statistics from a mathematics or statistics department; eight each of general chemistry, organic chemistry and physics; three biochemistry; and 18 biology hours, including at least 15 lecture and three formal laboratory hours. Biology must include science-major anatomy with lab, physiology and microbiology; approved combined anatomy and physiology I and II with both labs may satisfy anatomy and physiology. Current prerequisite page
The Admissions Committee encourages applicants to take most or all science work in person. The DAT should be taken in the spring or summer before application. The current school pages require the DAT but do not publish a minimum, expiration window or last accepted test date. Observation in a general dental practice is required, but the public pages do not publish an hour minimum. Texas A&M's current page does not publish a regular-applicant recommendation pattern or citizenship/visa rule; applicants should use the current TMDSAS application instructions and confirm school eligibility directly.
All applicants submit the TMDSAS primary and then receive an emailed Texas A&M secondary. The file is not complete until the secondary is submitted. The school charges no additional processing fee.

Texas A&M emails the required secondary after receiving the TMDSAS application. Its current page does not publish a separate secondary deadline, interview season, decision schedule or exact Fall 2027 matriculation date.
How selection works
Texas A&M says quality of academic achievement is considered first, with GPA and DAT as the primary factors. It also values community service, organizational involvement, leadership and required general-dentist shadowing. Interview review addresses noncognitive factors. Current DDS application procedures
Whole-file review considers motivation for dentistry, community service, dental observation or involvement, predental programmes, recommendations, written and conversational English, Texas region, residence in a dentally underserved Texas county, employment, preparation for postsecondary study, first-generation status, hardship, leadership and multilingual ability. Preference is given to Texas residents and applicants from surrounding states without a dental college. The school does not publish numerical weights, academic cutoffs, interview scoring, committee vote rules or wait-list ordering.
Interview details
Confirmed
The Admissions Committee may invite an applicant to interview, and the Office of Recruitment and Admissions schedules the interview. Texas A&M says the interview creates an opportunity to evaluate noncognitive factors and that impacts on an applicant's personal or academic history may inform both interview selection and final decisions. Current DDS application procedures
Not published
The current official pages do not publish Entry Year 2027 interview dates, modality, whether conversations are individual, panel or station based, number or duration, interviewer identities or file access, prompts, rubric, scoring scale, interview weight, accommodations or travel support.
Who this program may suit
Texas A&M's whole-file factors place special attention on service, general-dentist observation, leadership, communication, Texas regional representation and underserved counties. Applicants should connect their dental exposure to a grounded understanding of the patients and communities they hope to serve. Current DDS application procedures This page covers the regular predoctoral DDS in Dallas, not Texas A&M Medicine, dental hygiene, advanced-standing transfer or postgraduate programmes.
Practice and next step
Record a response about a general-dentistry observation or community-service experience that clarified the kind of community you want to serve. Ask a reviewer whether you describe what you observed, explain your own contribution and avoid making unsupported claims about impact. Make one adjustment, record a second attempt and compare precision and credibility.

Recommended preparation
Structured Interview Essentials
Build a repeatable spoken-answer loop across five common structured-interview skills: fair decisions, ethical reasoning, using feedback, teamwork under pressure, and explaining your motivation. Record each response once, choose the weakest one, review one observable weakness, and answer it again with one deliberate adjustment.
