Admission requirements

Applicants must be Texas or New Mexico residents when they submit and must have at least two years of postsecondary instruction and 48 semester credits by the end of Spring 2027. Minimum GPAs are 2.90 overall and 2.90 science using all coursework without grade replacement. A bachelor's degree is not required. Current requirements

Prerequisites require C or higher, generally within 10 years, with exceptions reviewed case by case. Current subject requirements include general biology and microbiology with laboratories, genetics, animal nutrition, general and organic chemistry with laboratories, biochemistry, statistics, Physics I with laboratory and English. Coursework may be planned or in progress but must be complete by the end of Spring 2027.

Three TMDSAS evaluations are required, including one veterinarian. Texas Tech sets no experience-hour minimum but evaluates the quality and quantity of agricultural, animal and veterinary experience in rural or regional communities. Neither GRE nor Casper is required under the current FAQ.

Texas Tech aims to send interview invitations by mid-November. Interviews occur in person in Amarillo during the week after the school's fall finals. The current academic calendar places Fall 2026 finals through December 11, but the admissions page does not publish exact interview dates. Admission notifications are expected by mid-February 2027, and accepted applicants confirm by mid-April with a $500 matriculation fee applied to first-semester tuition. How selection works

After TMDSAS transmission, applicants meeting basic requirements receive the secondary. Texas Tech prescreens the primary and secondary for rural and regional Texas or New Mexico experiences and attributes, then conducts an in-depth review to select interviewees. The committee focuses on life experience and personal attributes aligned to its rural and regional mission. Once GPA eligibility is met or scheduled to be met by Spring 2027, grades are not used to select applicants at any stage. Current selection process

After interviews, the Admissions Committee recommends candidates to the associate dean, who makes the final admission determination. Numerical weights for file review and interview performance are not published. The class size is approximately 100; up to 10% may be New Mexico residents.
