University of Toronto Medical School Admissions Guide (2027)

For Fall 2027 entry, the University of Toronto MD program has a target class size of 289 and requires applicants to meet its academic thresholds, submit two brief personal essays, an OMSAS autobiographical sketch plus statement, and three references. Use this page to separate current requirements from those still-open interview details.

Admission requirements

Academic eligibility

For applicants studying at a Canadian university, U of T will consider applicants who will complete at least three years toward a bachelor's degree—15 full-course equivalents—before enrolment. Applicants studying outside Canada must complete the equivalent of a Canadian four-year non-medical bachelor's degree. The minimum undergraduate OMSAS GPA is 3.6; U of T says 3.8 or higher has been competitive in recent admission statistics. Graduate applicants have a 3.3 minimum, with 3.6 or higher described as competitive. Meeting a minimum does not guarantee admission. U of T 2027 OMSAS guide

Prerequisite courses

Applicants need two full-course equivalents in life sciences and one full-course equivalent in humanities, social sciences and/or languages. U of T notes that chemistry and physics do not count as life sciences for this requirement. U of T 2027 OMSAS guide

MCAT

The most recent MCAT attempt written within five years is used. Applicants must reach 125 in each section, with an allowance of 124 in one section. U of T states that the MCAT is a threshold and is not used competitively. The score must be released to OMSAS. U of T 2027 OMSAS guide

Non-academic materials

The Fall 2027 application requires two original brief personal essays of no more than 250 words each, the OMSAS ABS, one ABS statement of no more than 500 words, verifiers for activities, and three references. U of T assesses the materials through four published clusters: professional; communicator/collaborator/leader; advocate; and scholar. U of T 2027 non-academic requirements

How selection works

U of T publishes requirements and assessment themes, but not a formula applicants can use to calculate an admission score.

  1. Eligibility and thresholds: The application must meet the undergraduate-study, prerequisite, GPA and MCAT requirements. U of T describes the MCAT as non-competitive once its threshold is met. U of T 2027 OMSAS guide
  2. Independent non-academic review: The brief essays, ABS and statements, and references are assessed through four clusters—professional; communicator/collaborator/leader; advocate; and scholar—and independently of the other submitted materials. U of T 2027 OMSAS guide
  3. Interview invitation: Selected applicants are invited to interview and must attend at their assigned date and time. U of T 2027 OMSAS guide
  4. Offers and wait list: Offers are issued in the spring or summer under the OMSAS schedule. U of T maintains a ranked wait list but does not disclose an applicant's position. U of T 2027 OMSAS guide

U of T does not publish current weighting among the academic file, non-academic file and interview. Do not infer weights from third-party calculators or historical forum posts.

Interview details

Confirmed

For Fall 2027, OMSAS lists the University of Toronto interview period as February through April. U of T's current admissions guide says selected applicants may be interviewed in person or virtually, normally on a winter or spring weekend, and must attend the assigned date and time. OMSAS program requirements overview and U of T 2027 OMSAS guide

U of T's standing interview explainer describes two formats used by the MD program. The in-person Modified Personal Interview has four independent interviews of approximately 12 minutes. The virtual MPI has four independent, asynchronous video responses of approximately five minutes; its published circuit includes an ID station and four interview stations. These are official format descriptions, not confirmation of which format will govern Fall 2027 interviews. U of T interview format

Not published

As of August 5, 2026, U of T has not published the exact 2027 interview dates or confirmed whether the 2027 cycle will use MPI, vMPI or both. Its interview page still labels February and March 2026 dates for the prior cycle. The school also does not publish the 2027 questions, scoring rubric, interviewer scoring weights or an applicant-specific preparation checklist. Use the invitation as the controlling source for format, timing, technology and accommodations. U of T interview page

Who this program may suit

This is an interpretation of published program characteristics, not an admissions advantage claim.

The U of T MD program may suit applicants who want a four-year curriculum with early patient and community exposure, a large GTA clinical network, and clerkship across years three and four. Students are assigned to one of three campuses for all four years while remaining able to access clinical learning across Temerty Medicine affiliates. U of T program structure and U of T campus assignment

The admissions materials also ask applicants to make reflection, learning, community contribution and communication concrete. A strong fit story therefore starts with real evidence from your work and activities—not with trying to reverse-engineer a supposed U of T applicant profile. U of T explicitly says there is no required number of activities or specific activity that gives an edge. U of T non-academic requirements

Practice and next step

Use the linked Feedback that changed your approach prompt as First practice. Use its timing only for this exercise.

  1. Take 60 seconds to choose one real feedback experience.
  2. Record a first five-minute response that explains the situation, why the feedback was initially difficult to use, the specific change you made, and how you checked the result.
  3. Review the recording for one weakness: vague context, defensiveness, an unclear adjustment, or no evidence of impact.
  4. Use mentor feedback or a focused self-review to choose one adjustment.
  5. Record the answer again and compare the two attempts for specificity, reflection and concision.

Then use the linked Guide to Brief and Concise Responses path to practise preserving evidence while removing setup that does not change the answer. Videoath helps you repeat the part that needs work through original prompts; it does not promise an interview outcome.
