Clinic appointment access and fairness
Practise making a fair decision when access is limited. Review whether you identify missing information, weigh both patients' needs, and explain the next step clearly; then record the scenario again with one improvement.

Admission requirements
A bachelor’s degree from a four-year institution is required. Prerequisites are two semesters or three quarters of biology totaling eight semester credits; one upper-level biology course of three credits; two semesters each of inorganic chemistry and physics totaling eight credits per subject; one semester of organic chemistry totaling four; one semester of biochemistry totaling three; and one writing-intensive course in the humanities or social sciences. Laboratories accompany the basic sciences; upper-level biology and biochemistry need a lab only when the course includes one. Application page
All prerequisites except physics must be completed at an accredited four-year degree-granting institution. Community-college prerequisites other than physics are not accepted. Required coursework needs a grade of C or higher, with B or better encouraged. AP does not directly satisfy prerequisites; applicants must retake the subject or complete an equal upper-level course in the same discipline.
DAT or CDAT is required. Scores must be after June 1, 2024 for July 2027 entry, and Tufts strongly encourages testing before September 1. Only the most recent attempt is considered. Published competitive scores—Academic Average 420, Reading Comprehension 410, Biology 410 and Total Science 410 on the current scale—are guidance, not minimums.
Applicants need two letters from science professors and a third from a dental experience, community-service supervisor or research mentor, or a committee composite. At least 75 shadowing hours are required, including at least 40 with a general dentist. U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible; international applicants need a completed or forthcoming bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year U.S. or Canadian institution.
Important dates
ADEA’s 2026–27 AADSAS application opened May 12, 2026 and first accepted submissions June 2. Tufts accepts applications from May 2026 through February 3, 2027 for the class beginning in July 2027. The supplemental fee is $90. Application page
Interview invitations begin in late August 2026. Interviews run from September 2026 through spring 2027. The exact July 2027 start date, supplemental-fee due date, offer schedule, wait-list timeline and acceptance-deposit dates are not published on the current page reviewed.
How selection works
Tufts reviews the completed AADSAS file, academic preparation, DAT or CDAT, recommendations, dental exposure and submitted experiences before extending interview invitations. Offers are contingent on the required professional and disciplinary certifications. Application page
The current page does not publish minimum GPA or DAT screens, holistic-review domains, numerical selection weights, interview scoring, committee vote mechanics, post-interview formula, residency preference or wait-list order. Competitive test scores are descriptive guidance and should not be presented as cutoffs.
Interview details
Confirmed
Interviews are invitation-only. Invitations begin in late August 2026, and interviews run from September 2026 through spring 2027. Application page
Not published
Tufts does not publish the current interview modality or location, number or duration of encounters, one-to-one versus panel structure, interviewer roles or file access, prompts or domains, scoring rubric or anchors, numerical interview weight, or post-interview committee process.
Who this program may suit
Tufts’ published requirements reward sustained general-dentist exposure, strong science preparation and recommendations from people who directly observed the applicant’s academic and service or dental work. A fit response should use one shadowing moment to explain what the applicant noticed about patient communication, how they tested that learning in later service or work, and why dentistry is the right professional path. Application page
This page covers the regular first-year DMD beginning in July 2027. Advanced standing, international-dentist, graduate, specialty and residency programmes have separate admissions rules.
Practice and next step
Record a response about one of your general-dentist shadowing experiences and what it taught you about patient communication. Ask a reviewer to identify whether the observation, your interpretation and your later action are specific. Make one adjustment, record a second attempt and compare clarity, reflection and evidence of informed motivation.

Recommended preparation
Structured Interview Essentials
Build a repeatable spoken-answer loop across five common structured-interview skills: fair decisions, ethical reasoning, using feedback, teamwork under pressure, and explaining your motivation. Record each response once, choose the weakest one, review one observable weakness, and answer it again with one deliberate adjustment.
