Admission requirements

Applicants may study any undergraduate major, but must complete all degree programs in which they are enrolled before matriculation. Tufts gives preference to applicants who will earn a bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. institution; international applicants remain eligible. Apply to the MD program MD FAQs

Coursework requires one year of biology, two years of chemistry including at least one semester each of general and organic chemistry, and one semester of physics. Biochemistry is highly recommended and may count toward the chemistry total. Applicants also need English, statistics, Mendelian genetics, cell and molecular biology, and laboratory competencies. AP credit has specific limits; exemption exams do not count. Community-college and online coursework are not prohibited, and all requirements must be complete before enrollment. The MCAT is required and must have been taken within five calendar years before enrollment; Tufts prefers scores within three years. Interview invitations run August through March and interviews run September through March. The committee makes rolling offers from October through April. How selection works

Tufts reviews the complete academic record, required premedical courses, extracurricular experiences, recommendations and applicant-supplied information for evidence of readiness and suitability for medicine. Tufts offers one MD admissions identity with two curricular tracks. Traditional MD students are based in Boston.
