Admission requirements

Applicants need at least 100 semester or 152 quarter credits from an accredited U.S. college or university, with minimum cumulative 3.0 and science 2.8 GPAs. Required work totals 65 semester hours: six each of English or writing, humanities/social studies, liberal arts and mathematics; one medical terminology; nine advanced biology; four each of biochemistry with lab, chemistry with lab and organic chemistry with lab; eight physics with labs; eight science electives; and three introductory animal science. Applicants also need at least 200 clinical contact hours with a licensed veterinarian. A complete VMCAS file includes at least three electronic recommendations and all transcripts. Tuskegee additionally requires its supplemental form, a separate veterinarian evaluation form and a $100 supplemental fee; proof of a VMCAS fee waiver can support a school-fee waiver. The current regular-DVM pages do not publish a citizenship or international-applicant eligibility rule. Tuskegee gives preference to articulation-agreement applicants, Alabama residents and cooperating or contract jurisdictions, including eligible Southern Regional Education Board arrangements.

VMCAS 2027 opened January 22, 2026 and closes September 15, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern. Tuskegee states that its VMCAS application, supplemental application and supporting documents are all due September 15. How selection works

Tuskegee first checks completeness and minimum academic requirements. The Admissions Committee then reviews academic performance and the full file. Published nonacademic considerations include professor and veterinarian evaluations, animal and veterinary experience, work, service, community involvement, volunteering, the personal statement and the interview.
