Admission requirements

Applicants must be U.S. citizens by October 15, be at least 18 at matriculation and no older than 36 on June 30 of the matriculation year unless granted an age waiver. They must complete a bachelor's by June 1 and qualify for commissioning, including medical and security requirements. Requirements

The cumulative GPA floor is 3.0 unless qualifying post-baccalaureate or master's work applies. For 2027, USU accepts MCATs from January 2024 through September 2026 and requires at least 496. PREview is optional and may be considered. Requirements

Prerequisites, all C or better by June 1, are one year each of biology, general/inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and physics with labs; six credits of English, foreign language or writing-intensive humanities/social science/psychology; and three credits of calculus or statistics. Accredited community-college, online and hybrid work including labs is accepted; CLEP is not. Requirements

The mandatory secondary has no fee and is due within 21 days. Required recommendations include a clinical letter and committee/packet where available, or two natural-science academic letters and one other academic letter; up to six individual letters are accepted. Requirements

Interviewed applicants must schedule or complete the DoDMERB medical examination before interview day and complete security pre-screening. Conditional acceptance becomes unconditional only after physical and security qualification. Orders are generally processed in May and June, service-specific officer training occurs in summer, and classes begin in August 2027. Exact interview, training and class dates are not published. How selection works

USU uses rolling admissions. Eligibility review considers GPA, MCAT, recommendations, clinical experience, volunteer and community service and AMCAS/USU statements. Approximately 600 applicants are interviewed, and the committee evaluates motivation and potential as a future military physician. Requirements Application process

Interviewees rank Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Public Health Service preferences, but appointment to the preferred service depends on seat availability. After two interviews, the full file returns to the committee. An approval is conditional until security and physical qualification are complete. Application process

Who this program may suit

USU trains commissioned physicians for military and federal service, including care in operational and austere environments. Applicants must evaluate officership, service-branch flexibility, physical and security qualification and a long service obligation as central to the program.
