UCC School of Medicine: Current MD Admissions Cycle

UCC's current March 2026 catalog requires AMCAS processing between June 1 and December 1, at least 90 college credits, 3.00 overall and science GPAs, a 495 MCAT from the two years before application, specified prerequisites and fluency in Spanish and English. Interview is invitation-only and uses an MMI protocol; modality, station count and timing are not published. The catalog does not label these recurring requirements as a Fall 2027 admissions cycle, so this guide does not assign an unsupported entry year. UCC states that it is fully LCME accredited with its next visit scheduled for February 2027.

Admission requirements

Applicants need at least 90 approved college or university credits; a bachelor's degree is highly recommended. The current catalog requires minimum overall and science GPAs of 3.00. All academic requirements must be complete by the end of the second semester of the academic year before admission. 2025–2030 catalog

The March 2026 catalog lists nine credits each of behavioral/social sciences, English and Spanish; eight each of general biology or zoology, general/inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and physics; six of college mathematics; and three each of biochemistry, genetics and molecular/cell biology. Psychology is recommended. 2025–2030 catalog

The same catalog requires an MCAT taken within two years before application and a minimum 495. Applicants demonstrate fluency in speaking, reading and writing Spanish and English during interview; coursework may be in either language and clinical experiences are predominantly Spanish. 2025–2030 catalog

The institutional application requires AMCAS, official transcripts, at least two faculty letters or a premedical committee letter and a $200 nonrefundable fee. Accepted applicants pay a $100 nonrefundable seat deposit. 2025–2030 catalog

UCC distinguishes Puerto Rico residents from nonresidents using AMCAS legal-residence data and recognizes applicants whose legal residence is outside Puerto Rico. The current regular-MD sources do not publish a citizenship or immigration-status restriction. Resident status

Important dates

The March 2026 institutional catalog says AMCAS must process the complete application between June 1 and December 1. It does not attach an entry year to those recurring dates, publish a separate secondary deadline, identify the last accepted MCAT date, or provide a current interview season, decision schedule, orientation date or class-start date. 2025–2030 catalog

The undated admissions webpage says all documentation is due December 30, while the current catalog says the complete AMCAS is due December 1. Treat December 1 as the primary-application deadline and confirm any later UCC document deadline directly before submission. Admissions webpage

How selection works

The UCC Admissions Committee considers academic qualifications, personal traits and potential for medical-school success using academic records, MCAT, personal statement, recommendations, interview, research, community involvement and health-related experience. Interview is by invitation after committee qualification and follows an MMI protocol. 2025–2030 catalog

UCC does not publish numeric component weights, screening rules above the stated minimums, MMI station domains, scoring anchors, committee-vote rules, rolling versus batch decision cadence or wait-list mechanics.

Interview details

Confirmed

The admissions interview is invitation-only after Admissions Committee qualification and follows a multiple mini-interview protocol. Applicants must demonstrate fluency in speaking, reading and writing both Spanish and English during the interview. 2025–2030 catalog

Not published

The current MD catalog does not publish whether the MMI is in person or virtual, its location, station count, station or preparation timing, total interview duration, interviewer roles, file access, question domains, scoring rubric or numerical weight. Invitation instructions control these details. An old 2015–2020 catalog's in-person statement is excluded.

Who this program may suit

UCC operates one MD campus in Bayamón and emphasizes bilingual education and clinical work with predominantly Spanish-speaking patients. Applicants should weigh the explicit Spanish-and-English requirement and demonstrate language ability through interview rather than treating Spanish as optional. UCC history 2025–2030 catalog

UCC currently states that the MD program is fully accredited by LCME and that its next accreditation visit is scheduled for February 2027. This is a live review horizon, not evidence of a future decision. Accreditation

This guide covers first-year MD admission. Transfer and advanced-standing rules are separate and excluded.

Practice and next step

Record a concise response to a scenario involving communication across language, cultural or access barriers. Identify the immediate concern, explain how you would learn the person's preference and describe a safe next action. Review whether empathy and reasoning are visible, revise one weak step, record a second attempt and compare clarity.

Recommended preparation

Structured Interview Essentials

Build a repeatable spoken-answer loop across five common structured-interview skills: fair decisions, ethical reasoning, using feedback, teamwork under pressure, and explaining your motivation. Record each response once, choose the weakest one, review one observable weakness, and answer it again with one deliberate adjustment.
