Admission requirements
UT Southwestern requires prerequisite coursework completed by enrollment, the MCAT, CASPer, a TMDSAS application, a secondary application, and supporting documents. The current page says MCAT exams taken from January 2022 through September 2026 can be considered for the 2027 entry year. CASPer is required for the 2026–2027 cycle; the current page lists October 27, 2026 as the exam deadline and November 1, 2026 as the distribution deadline (admissions process).
The school says it does not set a minimum GPA or MCAT cutoff and uses holistic review. It considers academic rigor, personal qualities, integrity, compassion, motivation, MCAT, GPA, recommendations, extracurriculars, employment, socioeconomic background, communication, and mission alignment. The current FAQ says only U.S. citizens and permanent residents are considered for interview and admission, and non-Texas residents are limited by state law to 10 percent of the class. Do not treat that cap as evidence of a universal Texas-residency cutoff.

How selection works
UT Southwestern describes a TMDSAS-to-secondary workflow followed by holistic Admissions Committee review, CASPer, invitation-only interview, and rolling offers. The committee evaluates academic rigor, personal attributes, motivation, communication, recommendations, activities, employment, and alignment with the school’s mission of training physicians for primary care, underserved Texas communities, and academic medicine. The page does not publish a numeric selection formula (selection criteria).

Who this program may suit
UT Southwestern’s published criteria may suit applicants who can connect academic preparation, service, communication, and clinical motivation to the school’s Texas-focused mission. The TMDSAS, CASPer, and secondary sequence requires careful deadline management, and applicants outside Texas should understand the published 10-percent nonresident limit. These are fit considerations, not an admission prediction (UT Southwestern admissions).
Practice and next step
First practice: Use the linked general fairness-and-access prompt to rehearse a concise answer for a standard virtual faculty interview. Use it to rehearse the published interview skills. Record a timed response, review whether you explain your action and its effect on each stakeholder, choose one weakness, adjust the answer, record it again, and compare the two attempts before choosing the next practice target.
