Admission requirements

Applicants need at least a 2.90 cumulative GPA and 3.10 prerequisite science-and-math GPA to enter review. A bachelor's degree is not required, though Utah State recommends at least 72 undergraduate credits before matriculation for financial-aid reasons. Prerequisites require C-minus or better and must be complete by July 1, 2027. They do not expire. Current requirements

Required areas include biology with laboratory, inorganic chemistry with laboratory, organic chemistry, biochemistry, college mathematics, statistics, physics, genetics, English composition or communication and arts, humanities, social sciences or history. Transcripted AP may satisfy specific requirements. Foreign transcripts require a course-by-course WES evaluation, with an exception in VMCAS for English-speaking Canadian institutions.

AAMC PREview is required, online and remote-proctored; the latest accepted test dates are September 16 and 17, 2026. GRE is not required or accepted. Current pages publish no experience-hour minimum. The VMCAS file includes letters, experience history and a USU supplemental with no separate fee. Current Fall 2027 timeline

Important dates

VMCAS opened January 21, 2026, and the no-fee USU supplemental became available in mid-May. PREview registration closes September 2 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern, with September 16 and 17 as the latest accepted test dates. VMCAS, transcripts, recommendations and the supplemental are due September 15, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern. Utah residency certification is also due September 15. Current Fall 2027 timeline

Kira invitations follow preliminary ranking and must be completed within seven days. Virtual interviews run December 2026 through January 2027, with exact dates to be announced. Initial decisions are expected February through March. Offers must be accepted by April 15, prerequisites completed July 1 and final transcripts received July 15, 2027. Orientation and classes begin in mid-August; the academic calendar lists first-year orientation August 16–18 and classes August 19, 2027. DVM academic calendar

How selection works

Applicants first clear the GPA and prerequisite screen. Utah State publishes pre-interview weights of 40% academic record, 30% experiences, 2% distinctions, 5% essay, 10% combined AAMC PREview and Kira assessment, 5% recommendation evaluations, 5% mission alignment and 3% postbaccalaureate work or degrees. Applicants selected by preliminary ranking complete Kira; interview invitations then follow the pre-interview ranking. Current selection details

After the virtual interview, the school says interview scores worth 15% of the total application are added to pre-interview scores before final ranking. Current pages do not explain how the 100-point pre-interview table is rescaled when the 15% interview is added, so do not derive a formula beyond those published statements. Final outcomes are offer, waitlist or denial.

Utah applicants claiming resident-pool or tuition status need certification by September 15. Applicants who are nonresidents at the deadline cannot reclassify during the DVM programme. Nevada residents may qualify for a separate WICHE tuition stipend; that is a funding route, not a separate admission programme.

Who this program may suit

Utah State may suit applicants seeking Utah's standalone four-year DVM with a distributed, community-based clinical model. Its first standalone cohort matriculated in August 2025, and the college holds AVMA COE Provisional Accreditation. The next site visit is scheduled for November 15–18, 2026. Current accreditation status

This is not the former Utah segment of the WIMU regional programme. The WIMU Class of 2028, which entered in August 2024, is Utah State's final WIMU class; current applicants apply to Utah State's own four-year DVM. Current programme-transition FAQ

Practice and next step

Record a concise response about feedback that changed your approach in veterinary work, animal care, research, service, employment or teamwork. Review whether the feedback, adjustment and result demonstrate reflection and professionalism in a recorded format. Then record a second attempt that states the change sooner and removes context that does not help an evaluator understand your judgment.
