Admission requirements
UVA requires at least 90 semester hours at an accredited U.S. or Canadian college or university at the time of application and strongly prefers a bachelor’s degree. UVA lists no required prerequisite courses and no science or humanities requirement, while recommending cell biology, biochemistry, human behavior, and statistics. All applicants must take the MCAT; scores must be from no later than September 30 of the year before matriculation and not earlier than April 1 of the third year before matriculation (general requirements).
For the 2027 admissions cycle, UVA will collect AAMC PREview scores from applicants who took the exam for other reasons but says the scores will be held for research and not used for evaluation. UVA accepts letters through AMCAS and requests a premedical-advisor evaluation or at least two individual letters.

The school invites applicants to interview, presents each week’s candidates to the Admissions Committee, and uses a rolling process with committee decisions.
