Admission requirements

Applicants need a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 and must complete a bachelor's degree before matriculation. Required preparation includes one calculus or statistics course; two college biology courses with grades of B or higher covering cell biology and genetics, with lab experience; two general or inorganic chemistry courses with lab; one organic chemistry course with lab; one biochemistry course, with lab encouraged; and a two-course physics sequence covering mechanics, heat, electricity, optics and radiation physics. Strong writing is expected, although no specific writing course is required. Requirements

AP or IB credit recorded by the degree-granting institution can satisfy requirements except that two biology courses must be completed in college. Brown accepts pass/fail and online work from spring 2020 through spring 2022 without prejudice and expects most premedical requirements within the prior ten years. Demonstrated competence through advanced coursework or scientific employment may also be accepted. Requirements

The MCAT is required. For the 2027 entering class, accepted scores are dated January 1, 2024 or later, and scores received by November 1, 2026 can be considered. Brown publishes no minimum MCAT composite score. A verified applicant receives the secondary; its non-refundable fee is $120. Applicants enrolled at or graduated from accredited U.S. or Canadian institutions may apply. International applicants need at least one year of coursework at an accredited U.S. or Canadian school and must meet all premedical requirements. DACA applicants are eligible. A person previously dismissed from, withdrawn from or graduated from a medical school is ineligible, and Brown permits a maximum of three applications. Requirements

How selection works

Brown reviews only complete files and considers leadership qualities, GPA, MCAT, recommendations, commitment to medicine, research, unique attributes, clinical experience and life experience. The Medical Admissions Committee particularly values intellectual curiosity, research or clinical experience, service, integrity and enthusiasm.
